The Worse Experience

I originally came on Avvo in search of obtaining an attorney when my ex-husband filed for divorce. I met up with Cindy to discuss my case and options. It was $250 up front. Which I paid, but that did not even go towards the initial payment. That was only to discuss my case. I then had to pay anot...her $1500 for retainer fees. Throughout my case, any correspondence, not matter how small I was billed and I tried to keep conversation to a minimal. Even court visits, where the other party did not show up, I was billed $500. The few months that I did have her, it did not seem that she had my best interest at heart. I would tell her what I needed to be done and what was best for my child in the custodial case and she would do what she thought was best. I terminated services and found someone else, who helped me out, listened to me, and understood my needs. However, I still owed Cindy because we ran through, very quickly the initial retainer fee. Even though a payment plan was arranged, she wanted me to pay a very high amount a month until it was paid off, I was still receiving threats of garnishments. Dealing with her and the new attorney that I hired was a big difference. My new attorney went for things that Cindy told me that I would not receive and said that it would be a waste of my time to fight for it. I really felt that all she cared about with me was getting paid.

I am very sorry that you feel the way you do. I believe that I give my clients excellent value for their money, and I believe that my other reviews express the clients' satisfaction with my representation. My representation of you ended over a year ago, and you made no effort to pay your final bill during the year you received the monthly invoices. Last week I informed you that I would have to file a collection action against you if you did not start making monthly payments. You wanted to take another two years to pay off your balance, and I pointed out that you had already waited a year before starting to make payments. Even so, I gave you six more months to pay the balance you owe. It is true that my initial consultations are a two hour appointment. I charge for the first hour, and the second hour is free. During that initial consultation for a divorce case I discuss all of the client's options regarding their children, division of property, allocation of debt, and spousal support issues. We run the child support guidelines, we discuss strategy, I answer all of the client's questions and I give legal advise specific to their individual situation. If I am hired, I charge against the retainer for the work I do on the case. I suspect that you similarly charge your employer for all of the work you do on your job. My philosophy has always been that I am assisting my clients during a rough part of their life, and that they get to make all of the decisions in the case after being informed of their options. I then execute the client's choices. All of my clients receive this courtesy and commitment from me. In your particular case, there were several complicating factors, and you made it very clear to me how you wanted things to be handled. I explained to you the consequences of your choices, and then I followed your instructions. You switched attorneys over a year ago, and your case is still pending. I believe this says a lot about the situation. I do wish you the very best, and it saddens me that you felt the need to retaliate against me in this way.

Kept me focused

Cindy was the voice of reason and logic when I was emotional going through my divorce. She made sure that my kid's best interest was top priority.

Amazing Attorney

Dear Mrs. Kirby, Thank you so much for all of your support, advice, encouragement, and knowledge which you shared with me to achieve the successful outcome in the case, for my daughter and I. I truly believe that it is your ethics, professional style, and your dedication, are what have reinstated ...my rights as a father. Hiring you as my attorney was the best thing I ever did. With your loyalty to me, your honesty, and integrity, your representation in one hearing and one trial date have granted me the ability to build the father-daughter relationship I desire. You brought happiness to my home, my daughter and I, thank you! Your patience and guidance, especially because I am out-of-state, made me feel like I have family in Toledo. Your expertise, quick response, and willingness to communicate at my convenience, are more values you posses which reflected your commitment to me and I greatly appreciate you. You listened and explained details of my case to me, giving me the facts, fulfilling my requests, making me comfortable, with a positive outcome. Mrs. Kirby, I am very lucky to have you as my attorney. Your humanity, humility, and fairness are keys to your success. You are proof that there are good people in the world. You are humble and respectful. To me, you are a wonderful lawyer and you are also an amazing person! You will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will be thankful to you forever. Grateful, Samer

Amazing attorney!!!!!

Cindy Kirby is what all attorneys should strive to be like. Honest, kind, compassionate, she listens to everyone, very fair, no B.S. a real human being. My time was utilized fairly and she treated me like I mattered. She fought for my rights and had the best interest of my child at heart. V...ery knowledgeable about family law and fathers rights. I was a single dad at the beginning of this case, it was very difficult and emotional time for me. I feel like Cindy Kirby helped me in more ways than one. I was able to get my confidence back and not feel like a victim. I tried getting a cheap lawyer the first time and all I got was nothing! You get what you pay for, except the best and nothing less.

Complex situation--favorably resloved

A very delicate situation developed where our elder parent divorced her spouse after 20 years of her second marriage. Our Mother is 88 years old so this was not a normal set of circumstances. Cindy professionally guided our family throughout the entire complex process. Thru all of the twists and turn...s the communication and interpretation of the issues was very high level and you would have thought we were her only client with all of the time she invested in getting it right. Cindy has a very professional approach to her practice this is true however I will also say that she exhibited a very strong sense of compassion and patience in applying her craft which is exactly what our Mother needed to place her at ease. If we were to ever find ourselves in a family crisis and in need of professional support I would without hesitation engage Cindy once again.
