Ohio divorce granted; Ex refuses to sign the quitclaim deed: Divorce was granted in Ohio in May 2016. A quitclaim deed was ordered for property wit no mortgage remaining. My ex refuses to sign it. I am planning on filing Contempt papers. What are the potential outcomes of the Contempt charges? Can he be forced to sign the deed? If he continues to refuse, what recourse do I have? He now lives in a different state.

William’s answer: Look in your separation agreement (if you settled the case) and see if there is language directing the transfer by the filing of the decree of divorce with the county recorder.

What is an evidentiary hearing and what purpose does it serve?: I watch the Ohio channel hear that expression a lot and simply want to know what it is.

William’s answer: If the court needs to base its decision upon specific facts in a case, those facts must be presented to the court as evidence. An evidentiary hearing is a court proceeding where the court hears evidence of the facts relevant to the case.
