How can I go about retaining an attorney who is familiar with securing patents for home remodeling?: I have put my faith time and money in a company since 2015 who promised to do a patent search, market and promote my art. I am now to understand that this company is a scam. I would still like to secure a patent for my art before it goes public.

Changi’s answer: You should have retained a USPTO licensed patent attorney. Many of attorneys here, like me, provide some free consultation.

What if I just wanted to use a Republican elephant in a power point presentation to Republicans? : I'm not selling T-shirts or anything. I'm just making a visual power point presentation to a group of Republicans. May I use the GOP elephant without fear of trademark infringement?

Changi’s answer: What is the content of your PowerPoint? If your presentation is about selling your product and the Republican Elephant logo will make the audience thinking your product is authorized from the Republican, it may not be okay. Without knowing the context and content of your presentation, it is difficult to provide meaningful opinion.

Trademark and copyright: Hi....I am looking to file a trademark and a copyright for the name of my new product. I would like to make sure it is not already copyrighted. Looking to spend at most 500.

Changi’s answer: The name of the product cannot be copyrighted. The name of your product can be registered for trademark. Also, you may want to check if your product itself can be copyrighted or patented. Talk to a IP attorney for an overall evaluation of your situation. Many of us provide free consultation.
