The Thompson Law Office provides DUI and criminal defense services in Olympia and Thurston County, Washington. James Thompson has successfully defended hundreds of clients from misdemeanor and felony charges. He has a firm understanding of the local court system and procedures. His practice is concentrated on criminal defense. He represents and advises clients in a wide variety of criminal matters such as driving under the influence, theft, assault, etc. Many of his cases consist of more serious felonies such as rape, manslaughter, and possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law and received his undergraduate degree from George Fox University.
Prior to founding the firm, James worked in the fast-paced oil boomtowns of North Dakota, which were seeing major increase in crime. During law school, he was a certified legal intern at the San Diego County Public Defender. He was involved in defending serious felony cases, including murder, sexual assault, and drug possession. Before that, he clerked at the San Bernardino County Public Defender and was assigned to the misdemeanor unit.
During law school, James worked at Student Legal Services. He zealously advocated for students in alcohol-related and landlord-tenant cases. He served on the University of Iowa mock trial team and competed in multiple tournaments. James also participated in the appellate advocacy program. In his free time as a law student, James volunteered with Iowa Legal Aid and the Johnson County Public Defender.
He is an active member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and enjoys weightlifting, whitewater kayaking, and traveling in his spare time.
