Aba Sheikh vs. Choe, et al., 156 Wn.2d 441 (2006)

Case Conclusion Date: 02.16.2006

Practice Area: Personal injury

Outcome: 4.8 million dollar settlement

Description: Said Aba Sheikh was 14 when he was beaten by four juvenile delinquents, two of whom were in foster care. He suffered very serious injuries. King County Probation left these delinquents on the streets, while they violated probation and parole and committed new crimes. Fred Diamondstone took the lead to prove the case against King County. King County paid 4.5 million to settle. The beating occured at a Shell station with a history of crimes. Shell Oil Company paid $300,000. The case went to trial against DSHS. The jury verdict of 8 million dollars was overturned in a heart-breaking decision by the WA Supreme Court, which ruled that DSHS's duty to control foster children does not extend to the general public.
