I was in a horrific roll over MVA in 2010. I sustained injuries that I still deal with today. I hired Mr. Matteson because he was everything I was looking for when hiring someone to help a physically injured person. Always respectful, kind, organized and friendly. God forbid this ever happened to me again- but if it did, I would definitely hire Mr. Matteson a second time without hesitation. He's simply the best and most knowledgeable you'll find in Whatcom County. Do your research and have a consult with him. It's worth it. Thanks Joel!

I was in an auto accident. My vehicle was deemed 'totaled'. The insurance company for the person that was undeniably at fault was unwilling to settle with me fairly.
My vehicle was not worth a lot of money, and I had luckily, only minor injuries. My own insurance company refused to help me "because I had only carried 'liablity' on this vehicle". (Enumclaw).
I tried to deal with the insurance company myself and they refuse to offer a settlement that would cover the damage /value of my vehicle. Over time, it became evident that I had some PTSD as a result of the accident.
An aquaintence had recommended Tario and Assoc. The attorney I met with took my case, then left the company. My case 'fell through the cracks' for 6 months, after which time I met Joel Matteson, who had been assigned my case. We met and he agreed to take my case. I feel he was honest and up front about my case, and had realistic expectations of how it might go and possible settlement. I was not pursuing this case to make a lot of money. Nor did I exaggerate or claim anything falsely. (Which is also why I wanted to find an attorney who would be up front and honest as well.) Over the next few months, things moved along much better. Mr. Matteson kept me informed, and considered my feelings and desires when it came to decisions along the way.
Within a few months my case was settled out of court. I felt the settlement was fair. (Again, I was not out to make a lot of money.) I was able to move on and put the whole thing behind me.
I very much appreciate Mr. Matteson and his staff.

We were lucky enough to have Joel as our appointed lawyer when we went to Tario and Assoc. for help. He was always there when I had a question or just needed reassuring. I would send an email and for sure have as answer before days end. Never did I place a call that wasn't answered back. Anyone that gets Joel for their attorney can rest assured he will do all that is possible to get a fair outcome. Thank you, Joel.

Mr. Matteson is an exemplary attorney that I would not hesitate to refer to anyone and everyone. He provides excellent and informed answers here on Avvo. I have been a judge, magistrate, prosecutor, law professor, and private attorney over the past 24 years and I still regularly learn new aspects about the law from his answers.
