About me

Neal is a Partner at Adkins Black LLP. He advises clients in the software and interactive media industries, including designers, developers, and creators of embedded software solutions, hosted software solutions, software applications, middleware, video games, online games, mobile games, mobile applications, casual and social games, virtual worlds, social networks, and other creative and innovative works.


Neal works directly with officers, directors, department and studio heads, and in-house legal departments. His services include management of complex legal matters such as product releases; negotiation of complex legal relationships with customers, contractors, publishers, developers, content licensors, vendors, suppliers, and other business partners; and providing business-oriented counseling to clients on a full range of other legal matters, including matters related to human resources, employment, and corporate governance.


Neal received an undergraduate degree in engineering from Stanford University and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He has taught intellectual property and business law courses as an adjunct professor at Seattle University and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Law, where he lectures on legal issues in video games and virtual worlds.


Neal was born on Adak Island, Alaska, located in the middle of the Bering Sea at the far southwestern tip of the Aleutian Islands. He grew up in Prineville, Oregon and now lives in Kirkland, Washington, with his wife, Joanna, and their two sons. During his off-work hours, he can be found snowboarding, golfing, or coaching youth baseball, basketball, or football, depending on the time of year.
