I am a law-abiding individual licensed to carry firearms in the state of Washington. Having been around firearms my whole life, I found myself in the very unfortunate situation where I had to use my firearm to defend myself against several drunken thugs who accosted me at Marina Park in Kirkland, WA.... When the police arrived, one man who accosted me ran and the other was arrested. However, the police also arrested me and charged me with display of a weapon (9.41.270). This happened in spite of the fact that the legislation subsection (c) of that legislation indicates that I may use my firearm to defend myself.
I hired one attorney who was horrible at communicating and did not act quickly as I had asked her to do. I was hoping to get the case dismissed based on clear video evidence before we even went to pre-trial. She couldn't even get in touch with the prosecutor. My life was quickly falling apart and I was facing serious consequences.
After a friend recommended that I check out Mr. Flennaugh, I contacted him reluctantly. He set me at ease and I agreed to swap my attorneys. Mr. Flennaugh made his first call to the prosecutor immediately after I hired him. The prosecutor took my initial slowness to act (with the previous attorney) and my attorney swap as a weakness in my defense. The prosecutor offered that I give up my firearm and my concealed carry license and plead guilty. In return I would get no jail time. I declined and Mr. Flennaugh went to work. Two court dates later (one to request a continuance while the prosecutor reviewed our evidence, and the second to enter our settlement with the judge) my case was dismissed with prejudice and my firearm was returned to me.
My previous attorney gave me no confidence and may have actually prolonged my case. Mr. Flennaugh put a stop to the prosecution and let me get back to my life.
If you are looking for justice, picking the right attorney is key. Chose the wrong attorney as I initially did and you could end up in jail. Choose the right attorney and it will make all the difference in the world.
