About Christian

Learn Christian’s areas of practice.

A lot of my practice involves litigation, so I know the importance of fortifying the client's position and preparing for trial. However, litigation is oftentimes avoidable, and in many cases, not in the best interest of the client. Lawsuits can be expensive, emotional, and time consuming. The best lawyers are skilled at avoiding them. Everything revolves around the client. Phones, libraries, conference rooms, bar numbers... would all be meaningless if there was no client. I never forget that.  I put myself in my clients' shoes whenever I give advice.

I was born and raised in Seattle. I love it here. I received my B.A. degree from the University of Washington in philosophy. When my professional philosophizing career did not exactly materialize, I applied for law school. In truth, philosophy provided me with an excellent foundation to learn the art of logical reasoning and argument. They say the master philosopher (not lawyer, mind you) is capable of starting with a few premises that noone would deny, and deducing them to a conclusion with which noone would concur. The better a lawyer is at filtering through hype, posturing, and flawed reasoning, the more effective the lawyer is at serving the client's interests. Philosophy was also a good place to learn the fundamentals of ethics.  I attended the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene. Yes, that makes me both a Husky and a Duck, which is arguably a contradiction in terms. Within those three years of lawschool, I pursued studies and programs that served to develop my skills of persuasion, advocacy, and articulation.

Legal matters always involve a client. Always. Furthermore, the client is always more important than the legal matter. Always. The reverse is never true. Never. I fully communicate with the client and work with the client to get to the optimum outcome. Where's our direction, our perspective, what is logical, practical, how best to persuade the other side? Our firm's clients are almost always businesspersons. I work with them to determine which facts are important and which are not important so that the appropriate strategy can be developed. Hollywood and television are infatuated with the courtroom, the legal process, the detective work, and most of all, the truth. But "the truth" can rarely be agreed upon by all. Rather, the practice of law and my work as a lawyer involves determination of the "proof". Proof that is logical and persuasive.

As a lawyer, my job entails finding a balance between or among conflicting, inconsistent or adversarial positions. Lawyers and judges attempt to fashion this balance. The better lawyers are able to work with their clients and opposing counsel to define and strike this balance. Other lawyers spend time in the courtroom asking the judge to strike a balance that the lawyer was unable to achieve on behalf of his client. Taking matters to trial, though costly and time consuming, is sometimes necessary. A lot of my work entails helping my clients avoid disputes, e.g., with a good contract. When a dispute develops, I always exhaust every imaginable effort to create a workable solution.  My role as a lawyer is not to make cases and arguments where they do not exist.  Rather, I see my role as narrowing the issues, sorting out what is undisputed from what is disputed, and putting together a legal strategy that is aimed at an efficient, fair, and economical resolution.

My hobbies include soccer, windsurfing, surfing, badmitten, golf, hiking, snowboarding, running, swimming, and pretty much everything else.

Great professional help for those in need!
Running a business is no easy thing. One has to take care of their customers and employees all the same. There are many challenges to being successful and one of them is navigating the legal system. Christian is that guy if you need some help in becoming familiar with the way courts (and other companies lawyers) handle the legalities in construction. We were involved with multiple lawsuits that were unbeknownst to us until being served. The illegal actions were performed by someone in our company that we very much trusted. It was a very difficult situation to handle and we knew we needed legal help. The Linville firm had helped us in the past set up really good contracts for construction, so we decided to use them for our new legal matters. Christian was not only very understanding of the situation but he showed us that he was working hard on our case with continual updates of how the courts and lawyers were proceeding. Also, his advice for how we should act within our own company was very honest and orderly. In the end, he succeeded in getting us out of an ugly legal battle.

The One I Trust
Christian represent me in three Lawsuits starting from 2009. Initially, I was very stressful and frightened to deal with legal matter. Christian was very patient to help me, provide professional advice, follow through my case very carefully. Always consider my difficulties and concern. He treat me like his friend. He helped me to win two Lawsuits and successfully to collect the court judgement. Another one is still ongoing. I always trust him and have fully confident on him. I recommend Christian to my sister and friends. All are very pleased and satisfied the service provided by Christian. I highly recommend Christian to others.

1st Construction Client
Luck of the draw landed me in Christian's office and I officially became Christian's 1st Client 12 years ago & he became my 1st lawyer. Time has passed and I have not lost my devotion to the Linville Law firm. The field of law can quickly become tangled and messy. Christian's work is based on removing obstacles, not creating them. Christian has the ability to see the entire playing field while keeping pinpont focus on the potential outcome. He gives sound advice and thinks about the nuances of a case. I trust Christian explicitly with the complications & issues that can arise in the construction field.

subcontractor
Have known Christian and his father Larry for over 15 years now. Have only required their services a couple of times. Have taken their seminars in the past to learn more about the Washington State Construction laws. Their knowledge and expertise is by far top of the line. Learn something new each time I need their services. We can never predict the future and what problems may exist, but when the problems do occur it is nice to know I have them in my corner.

A True Champion When I Needed One
In my 25+ years of small business ownership in the construction field there were times when I needed representation. Early on, before finding Mr. Linville, I found that the attorney's I had hired were White Flag wavers. I am grateful beyond words that I found Mr. Linville. He has represented me on a few occasions now, with a very good success rate I might add, 100%, and he has been the vigorous champion I had been missing for years. I would highly recommend Mr. Linville.

Super guy, great attorney
"Speak softly, but carry a big stick." by Theodore Roosevelt, makes me think of Christian. This man is a thinker, he is not rash nor abrupt in the courtroom, rather his demeanor is one of calm and control. He makes his clients feel at ease and does so with his competence and knowledge. We have had the pleasure of working with Christian on a very arduous case, but his professionalism and ability to communicate have made the process more bearable. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Would hire again (but hopefully not!)
Nobody wants to have to hire an attorney, but there are circumstances that can't be avoided. We contacted Christian a number of years ago in a construction dispute. Although we had a lousy contract, Christian was able to settle the case in record time. He re-wrote out contract to cover all our bases, and years later, that move really paid off. When we contacted him again about a very involved and difficult case, our bases were covered with our new contract. We did not hold high hopes of reaching a settlement with these difficult customers, but Christian did not give up. He did an excellent job negotiating for us and reached a reasonable settlement. I would hire Christian again and refer him to our associates.

Help with construction contract
I got into a legal dispute with a customer. I though I could handle it myself. It got to the point that I needed to find a lawyer. I found Christian on AVVO. It turned out that I had more problems than I thought. I met with Christian. He is a very good lawyer. Very practical. He laid it all out for me. He gave me good advice even though I did not like to hear it. We worked together for a short bit of time and Christian was able to work out a solution with the other side. Looking back, I appreciate Christians’ candor and legal assessments. Christian wrote me a new construction contract and put me on the right path.

Goes the extra mile
I could say so many positive things about Christian Linville. I first came to Christian as a subcontractor needing help with an issue I had with a general contractor. Christian was always available which is important when you are dealing with the stress of litigation. I liked Christian so much I asked him to help me on a personal matter (outside his normal practice area) he was more than willing to help. Once again, Christian proved he was a superhero! When it comes right down to it I just don’t trust anyone but Christian now. That’s a great thing to be able to say about your lawyer!

Construction- Sub GC suing GC
I've used lawyers in the past to answer general-specific legal advice on construction related matters. As a subcontractor in this industry, it's easy to be a victim. Unfortunately, a contractor failed to pay a sum of money due forcing me to find an attorney. I contacted a past attorney but didn't appreciate his advice or approach. I contacted three more firms but each time was greeted on the phone by a secretary who couldn't answer what type of law the firm practiced or put me on hold for 5 minutes. By the time I found the Linville firm's info in the MBA handbook talking to Emily was a breathe of fresh air. She was able to answer my question without putting me on hold as to the types of law practiced, that yes there were multiple attorney's here who could help me, and to top it off she patched me thru to an attorney - NOT AN ANSWERING MACHINE! Christian listened to my situation, provided a quick answer but was honest to tell me he had to leave for court. He promised to call back upon his return, and he did! I was genuinely surprised he called back, since most lawyers never do about small cases. He proceeded to advise me on my case and presented very clear paths on how to proceed. Christian is unlike any other attorney I have ever hired because he was attentive, honest & compassionate while minding the time spent to execute his work to keep costs down. I would recommend Christian, because he is genuine. The Linville firm truly upholds their agreement that they are here to take care of their client. The staff when answering the phone are knowledgeable and polite & manage to always find a way to put you through to a person, ie a paralegal or attorney. Thank you again!

Office Manager
Mr. Liville was very pleasant to work with. He has an easy-going manner that makes difficult times seem less challenging. He also speaks in "regular English" instead of legalese, so that it is much easier to understand what is going on. He has heart, and really believes in his client.

Client Review
Christian has been a supportive, compassionate, understanding, counselor. Has been a good listener, and doesn't hold back from offering his insight and opinion. I am not a believer that you can win them all, but Christian has been diligent, honest and direct, and I have every reason to place my confidence in him.

Christian Linville looks out for our interests in each case we've turned over to him. He becomes part of our team helping us protect our lien rights, following thru on the process for us when it becomes necessary. He's very personable, pleasant to work with.

Poor tactics
Does not negotiate in good faith. Pushes responsibility entirely onto his client and then ghosts you. Sends a letter that says he represents said party and then doesn't. I could go on.
