I’m so grateful for being here in Oregon and having Kaori Eder as my attorney.
I’m Japanese and so is my ex. I believed I had to follow the Japanese divorce law, which would have worked too well for my ex. It’s Kaori who told me that I could file my divorce case here in Oregon.
She is not only a calm, cautious, knowledgeable and very professional lawyer, but she also worked like a psychologist.
She often took me back to a proper path whenever I got lost.
She stayed focused until the very last moment in many situations including deposition and mediation, which I didn’t find from the opponent counsel.
I especially appreciated how she summarized letters from the opponent counsel when the letter was full of complicated matters. I still remember when she advised me to take a deep breath before I read the proposal letter from the OC because the letter was full of things that could cause grief. Thanks to her, I was able to be well- prepared before I read the letter. Her advice worked like a charm.
I don’t know if she does this for every clients, but thanks to her, I believe I didn’t make any big misconceptions caused by a language barrier.
Her words and attitude towards me were full of compassion, so I was not alone during the hardest time of my life, thanks to her.
She converted my negative power to a positive one and pulled me up from the chaos.
I’m fully satisfied with the outcome and I’m happier than during the last three years while my ex was betraying me by having a Japanese mistress who has her husband in Japan.
If I had not found Kaori and had followed Japanese divorce law, my future would have been a miserable one with a small amount of division of assets.

Kaori was calm, collected, and compassionate in the face of some horrible circumstances for me, and she was my ultimate advocate. She presented best-case and worst-case scenarios, as well as informed me of the long-term consequences of certain decisions and my actions outside of and inside of my case. Yet the ultimate decisions were left up to my judgment, for which I was grateful, since I would have to live with the consequences of my judgment. The details of my case had never been tried before in Oregon, and she worked tirelessly to source similar cases in other states so that the judge would feel certain facts were relevant and want to force disclosure from the person I was married to (who was refusing to disclose foreign assets, family gifts, and credit cards). She was the only person I could find who was an expert in international family law - crucial in my case to advise me on all the pertinent international issues - and an expert in the culture I was dealing with. As an advisor and advocate I couldn't have found anyone better, and she worked to ensure a positive outcome in my case despite extremely difficult circumstances. I can't recommend her highly enough!

I am grateful to Kaori for helping me in my case. It was a really dark portion of my life. Kaori has always explained me about the intricacies of the law and was a huge support during my tough times. She has guided me well about what needs to be done and what are the risks of not doing it. Finally, with her legal help and with god's blessing I made it through and saw light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks again Kaori.

Kaori helped my fiancee and I through the complicated inner working of our prenuptial agreement, just days before we were to get married. She made herself available around the clock, was very well versed on the intricacies of prenuptial agreements, and effectively advised us towards a prenup that we're both very happy with. I've worked with and know other family lawyers who are the antithesis of this, and lawyers such as Kaori are a rare find.

Kaori is over confident and that can end up costing me more in the long run. We ended up in a case against a seasoned divorce attorney and it ended up costing me a lot of money. You get what you pay for. My recommendation would be to hire an attorney that has more experience.

I retained Kaori and her firm from another state where my case was filed in Oregon. Boy, am I pleased with the decision of hiring them! Not only they offered me a very good legal strategy, the team's customer service was also great - they were quick to respond, including communication after hours; their information was thorough and thoughtful. Not only were they professional, the team members were also very caring during this difficult time in my life. Without Kaori's service, my life would be must messier and more stressful. I would hire her team again a heart beat!

An amazing lawyer!! She surpassed all of my expectations. Very knowledgable and smart. Helped me get a restraining order for an abusive and manipulative ex boyfriend who I thought was going to just trample me in court. She made me feel very comfortable and was understanding. During court, she was very confident in what she was doing and I felt safe with her. I am so happy I got her as my lawyer. Would recommend her to anyone!!!

Kaori was very helpful toward bringing an end to my case. Ex is a high conflict personality that often rubbed me the wrong way. Any time I acted on any impulse that wasn't in my best interest, Kaori let me know and offered suggestions for alternatives. Divorce / custody issues are hardly un-emotional, but it's good to have someone in your corner who calls it as she sees it. Our case didn't go in front of a judge, but was pretty confident if it had. It's really good to get an accurate appraisal of the situation from a calm and knowledgeable professional.

I retained Kaori to gain sole legal and physical custody of my 2 year old son. I was in the midst of managing a new independent consultant business, relocating out-of-state to be closer to my family, being a single parent and fighting a ridiculous custody battle with an erratic, irrational and deadbeat ex. Kaori "got it" right away and focused on what was most important (the safety of me and my child) and took care of business. She knows how to navigate the system, stay focused on a strategy, support me emotionally...and win. With her expertise, I have custody of my son, and the judge also awarded me almost 75% of her attorney fees from the opposing. I am forever grateful for her availability and responsiveness, no-nonsense approach, focus and calm demeanor. She and her team got me through the most difficult year of my life. Without hesitation, I recommend her as highly as I can with words.

During a mortgage transaction I had a client whose “do-it-yourself divorce” omitted an essential component of the property and debt allocation. Being familiar with Mr. Margolin and Ms. Tanabe through previous transactions, I referred my client to them. In the realm of family/real estate law, this was a very minor case—one that many attorneys would have not taken. Understanding the importance of the issue to my client and his ability to purchase a home already under contract, Dan and Kaori not only took on the job, but gave it a high priority and completed the legal matter in record time, allowing my client to successfully purchase a home. I would highly recommend both Mr. Margolin and Ms. Tanabe—they not only have a thorough and professional approach, but more importantly, a deep consideration for what is most important to their clients.
