I called Mark, at an unusual hour and without prior notice, after being exposed to a scam that very much frightened me. I will not be going into much detail about the specific scam, as it is well reported on already (google “dating scam south carolina” for further information). In short, I was threat...ened with very serious charges by a person alleging to be a local detective. I was not aware of this scam before and it is very sophisticated and multi-layered, so for an hour of my day I was in complete panic and did not know what to do. That’s when I called Mark and explained to him what happened to me, because I still wasn’t sure if it was a scam or not. He took the time to understand my situation very well and gave me clear and helpful advice as to what to do. Mark informed me about my rights and how to approach situations involving the authorities in the future. He told me that what I am describing is most likely a scam because the alleging second party is using extortion to ease the situation, I did not pay them any money because that’s when it sounded like a scam to me. There are others who have been extorted and paid money to a similar scam, I hope there is more awareness about this scam since there are also some lives lost because of it. I am very appreciative and grateful for Mark for taking the time to talk to me, easing my fears in a very distressing time, while also informing me about my rights. I do not ever get into trouble with the law, so talking to him was a very informative lesson for me. I am glad I talked to him even in unfortunate circumstances.
