Authentic Advice from a Lawyer with a lot of Integrity
Burton's office ended up not taking my case, primarily because as it turns out, I don't need a lawyer to proceed with my case. However, they spent over an hour with me at their office going over the specifics and were incredibly generous to provide me with all of the advice they could at no charge. I have now spoken to several lawyers on this site regarding my wage claim (I have been unpaid by a previous employer for wages and commissions) and Jocelyn Burton was by far the most honest and engaged lawyer I spoke with. From just the little experience I had with her office, I would highly recommend her and would absolutely go back if something changed with my case or any future claims. Currently it seems I'm most successful proceeding with the Labor Commissioner and not in need of a lawyer for this particular case. I was touched by their honesty and am so appreciative of all of their advice.
Attorney Burton was a fabulous advocate for me. She was knowledgable, professional and pleasant to work with. I like a lawyer who navigates the legal system with such ease and competence. I always felt as if she protected my interests. My case was difficult but we got through it. I have recommended her to others because of her competence, professionalism, tenacity, and unbridled talent. Yes, she costs money, but when was the last time you worked for nothing?

Labor/employment law
I saw Ms. Burton about a discrimination question. She was very knowledgeable and professional. Her advice was excellent. I would recommend her to anyone who needed a competent, organized, honest attorney.

Had a bad experience with this attorney
This attorney would ask you to sign a retainer agreement which would exclusively give her the right to get out of your case for ANY reason. Once you signed the retainer agreement, then she would do the minimum amount of work in your case. In my case, she didn't even take a single deposition !!! She would try to settle your case for pennies. If you don't accept her "recommended settlement" then she would file the Motion to withdraw from your case and would also put a lien on your case for her work charging at $500/hour Now, it would become very hard for you to find another attorney who would first fight for your case and then also fight or pay her filed lien as well. You can visit Oakland Court house and see for yourself as how many Motions to withdraw and liens she has filed on her ex-clients !!!!

Response from Jocelyn BurtonMay 28, 2013
In the case, the client's prior attorney had withdrawn because the client was uncooperative. After I took the case, the client did not follow my instructions and I believed that he had misrepresented one of facts. Based on that misrepresentation, it was my assessment that his estimated damages had been reduced significantly. I advised the client that based on the misrepresentation, I planned to withdraw. I further advised him that if he found another attorney or otherwise permitted me to withdraw before I had to respond to a motion for summary judgment, I would withdraw without requesting any payment. I also advised him that if I had to respond to a motion for summary judgment, I would file a lien upon withdrawal. In the almost six months that the client was advised to seek another lawyer, he did not do so. Moreover, the client did obtain a settlement of the matter and he accepted it. I could not have done anything more to obtain a better result for this particular client given the facts and his behavior.
