Sam Van Eerden’s desire to become a lawyer and defend the rights of the accused stemmed from his realization that the criminal justice system that was originally designed to protect those in our society is being systematically used to abuse their rights and mistreat them. A graduate of Oak Brook College of Law & Government Policy, and a transplant from Wisconsin, Mr. Van Eerden has been a member of the Kern County legal community since 2009, first with the Campbell Law Firm and now at Campbell Whitten. During this time, he has honed his focus on criminal defense, particularly in matters related to DUI (alcohol and drugs), domestic violence and spousal abuse, drug charges, and many other cases including traffic matters.
Regardless of the similarity of charges from one case to another, each case has its own story and broader context beyond what law enforcement may allege, and each case has an individual person’s rights to defend. Criminal defense for Sam is about telling that story, defending those rights, and persuading the audience, whether it be a district attorney, a judge, or a jury.
When he is not in court, preparing his cases for hearing or motions, or otherwise working, Sam enjoys sports (both as a spectator and as a participant), writing, learning new things, and spending time with his family. He is a member of the Kern County Bar Association and also serves on a local school board.
