Petty $50 consultation fee

Phoned office and secretary offered me an appointment to meet the attorney at his office. Arrived at office and was given a questionnaire to fill out while waiting in reception area. While filling out the form I noticed a large Brass Plaque that indicates "Consultation $50.00" Obviously, I had the ...wrong impression, nothing was said about a consulting fee when the appointment was so promptly setup on the phone. Man! Do I feel embarrassed to have had the expectation of a quick free consultation. It seemed that in the past most attorneys would do a free consultation. (Oh Silly me) I mentioned being unaware of fee on the phone, (bait n switch?) but I also understood time was money and perhaps he might negotiate on the fee. He asked me to briefly explain my case. His consultation consisted of an explanation of how much value a case has based upon the monetary expected award versus the amount of legwork and expenses that it might take to proficiently present the case. Most worthy note was that opposition has deeper litigation pockets than the monetary worth of my case. Basically, I received a ten minute lesson on how an attorney determines the valuation of a case and how much return can be expected to be earned for the amount invested in the presentation to represent a given case. It never was clearly said at what return percentage such investment is considered profitable? You might assume that the attorney that spends ten minutes and charges fifty dollars just to explain this bottom line reality of litigation,,,,, it is very unlikely that same attorney is going to want to invest any out of pocket expense to investigate or provide for outside expertise when presenting the case. Just not profitable or easy enough. I spent fifty dollars with no other knowledge on the MERITS of my case but only that it may not be valuable enough or that it requires too much legwork. Ten minutes fifty dollars and unwilling to "set precedence" and negotiate a lower consult fee..... This attorney is very petty! I am a plumber and my fees are high ! But I dont charge for such useless consultation.

Your consultation was about a potential medical malpractice claim. I reviewed the facts of the claim at length with you and explained that the hospital would deny liability. I explained that a lawsuit would have to be filed and that experts would have to be hired at a substantial cost. I explained that unfortunately the injury involved was not serious enough to merit such an investment. You acknowledged your understanding of the factors involved and understood why an attorney would be reluctant to pursue your medical malpractice claim. When you left you appeared satisfied with my answers to all of your questions. I am sorry that you were disappointed with the consultation. You may contact my staff and they will arrange for a full refund of your $50.00.

Thank You

I would like to extend my words of thanks and appreciation to Amador as my Attorney. Auto accidents are very stressful so I was very thankful to have Amador by my side. I appreciate the assistance and time spent on my case.
