Benjamin T. Ikuta is an attorney who joined Hodes Milman Liebeck, LLP in 2016.  Ben focuses on nursing home negligence, elder abuse, personal injury and product liability.  For eight years prior to working at Hodes Milman Liebeck, LLP, Ben worked for firms that primarily focused on defending skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities for the elderly, hospitals, physicians, and nurses. He defended elder abuse, malpractice, and employment-related actions.

In October of 2012, Ben was the second-chair for a trial in defending a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (“RCFE”) in an elder abuse case.  The RCFE had served grade D commercial steak to its residents.  After an 85-year old resident choked on the meat, the staff at the RCFE failed to call for the paramedics for approximately 20 minutes, resulting in the elder’s death.  After a 6-week trial, where Ben cross-examined the elder’s family, the meat manufacturers and distributers, and an expert doctor, the jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of Ben’s client.  In another case, Ben defended a registered nurse accused of sexual misconduct in an administrative hearing and received a favorable result of probation.  As a defense lawyer prior to joining Hodes Milman Liebeck, LLP, Ben routinely secured judgments in favor of healthcare providers and insurance companies.

In 2016, Ben realized that his true calling was not in defending healthcare providers and insurance companies, but rather to work for those injured by wrongdoing.  This was particularly true for vulnerable and defenseless elders in claims of reckless neglect against RCFEs, Skilled Nursing Facilities, and Hospitals. Ben’s extensive experience with defense firms provides him a unique perspective in relation to the tactics and strategies implemented by insurance companies, corporations, and defense attorneys. This experience from the other side of the table allows Ben to represent plaintiffs more effectively and obtain the best possible results.

Education

Ben received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UCLA. Ben earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he served as Symposium Editor of the Hastings Law Journal. During law school, Mr. Ikuta made significant contributions to the public sector, providing research and recommendations for the Judicial Council of California and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission.

Compassionate and Committed
Ben slam-dunked a complex case for us. We could not have had a better outcome. He was compassionate, concerned and passionate about our case. He spoke to us during the day and evening, when necessary, a rare availability in today's legal climate where you are lucky to get your lawyer on the phone. As an attorney, myself, I was able to evaluate his strategies, thought processes and legal expertise and found them superlative. His knowledge of the law is encyclopedic and numerous times during depositions he had to correct opposing counsel's misconception of applicable statutes. His application of legal theories facilitated a generous settlement. Ben is a critical, compassionate thinker and the kind of advocate I wish all injured parties had.

Went 10 extra miles for me.
Hiring this company and this attorney was a life-changing situation for me. When no other attorney would touch our case this law firm stepped forward and took control and did a fantastic job for us. These folks are about the only attorneys I’ve ever used that actually answer the phone and return messages. Ben Ikuta helped us win a case that may have otherwise going absolutely nowhere. If you’re looking for someone who will fight to the death for you and be responsive and listen to your situation. These are the people. Five stars, I would give them six if I could .

Superb & Sharp Lawyer!
Benjamin is the kind of lawyer that you want on your side. He has a burst of confidence and sharpness that is clearly evident. You feel his legal strength when you speak to him and that utter strength it is certainly accompanied by extensive legal knowledge. If I was a lawyer, I would steer clear of going up against him!

Benjamin Taisuke Ikuta: Brilliant, knowledgeable , hardworking, and friendly.
Our ordeal started in Spring 2015 .  A "friend" talked us into buying a mobile home  with her on 50/50 basis.   A few days before closing, she  told us the funds she was expecting would be a few days late,  and asked us to advance the money so the closing wouldn t be delayed, and she would pay us back later.  Since we were rather close friends,  we agreed to let their names registered as owner without even asking her to sign a promissory note.  After the closing, she blatantly claimed her rights to move in without repaying the loan we advanced.  We consulted with several lawyers , and were very discouraged with their pessimistic opinions.  Then we decided to hire one  lawyer,  withdrew from her,  hired another one , withdrew again.   Mr. BENJAMIN T. IKUTA  was the third one we engaged.  BEN'S  confidence of winning the case  made us feel less worried.   Not only BEN was brilliant, knowledgeable , experienced,  and hard working in preparation evidences and interviewing witnesses,  he is very friendly and approachable.  And on  July  26 ,  2017,  BEN proved that he was right ,  we won the case.  We are so grateful to Mr. BEN T. IKUTA . Mr. Oanh & Mrs Thuan

Horrible Experience
I’m leaving this review to help others understand who they dealing with before committing. I don't like negative reviews, but it's important to share my experience. Ben Ikuta wasted 2 years and ruined my case. After taking me as a client nothing was done for 2 years. A week before we were supposed to go to trial he informed me that he’s dropping the case. From day one he was incredibly rude and insensitive. I hoped that he would be very aggressive with defendant that’s why I kept tolerating him. My case involved very significant injury to a child. He was confused about all the facts, made me re-live the horrors of the day during every meeting. He gave me chills after every single time I talked to him. According to him, he said he lost every case with hospitals so he was afraid to deal with them. He failed to even file paperwork correctly and withheld information. I hope this review helps others. If I saw something like that I would never seek Ben Ikuta’s legal services.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community
"Benjamin T. Ikuta is one of the most knowledgeable and hardworking plaintiff's attorneys in California, especially in the medical malpractice area. If I have any medical malpractice case referrals, I do not hesitate to refer to Ben Ikuta. His passion and experience in medical malpractice helps him secure the best results for his clients, whether he settles the matter or if he needs to go to trial. Although it may sound cliche, Ben Ikuta truly loves working for excellent results for his clients. He puts in the hardest work on all cases and is not scared to go to trial against even the biggest medical defendants. As a fellow California civil attorney, I often turn to Ben Ikuta for counsel on my own matters due to his high level of knowledge and devotion to civil litigation and California caselaw."
