Praise for both Mika Spencer and Avvo.com

I found a question someone posted here on Avvo.com that was similar to my own situation. What got my attention was how the answer Mika Spencer gave was valuable in and of itself, rather than purely an attempt to pitch a sale. So we communicated through this website, and I eventually hired her and her... firm. All the preparation that went into the case seemed like a solid process, and let to a successful outcome.

Update to Previous Review after you pay beware

I had great promise after talking to her, and felt after all I had been thru I could actually have help with my case. After I hired her to assist with my federal EEOC and spent money traveling for additional case review, and I paid her $12,000, she basically stopped answering my calls and emails. S...he made me feel like I was to blame and that I would be a poor witness if my case ever made it to trial. That is her job as a lawyer, just like my job is to help people. She takes 3 months between emails and she is unreachable it is one excuse after the next. I submitted my demands letter to regional counsel and after the RC did not respond that was it, have not heard back since May. I have copies of every email where she apologizes and gives excuses, promises to call, but never does. Please contact me if you are a federal employee thinking about hiring this women to help you with your EOC. I had been thru hell for 4 years at work, and trusted this women to help, she essentially only made it worse by taking all my savings and leaving me with no hope. If I had money I would file a suit against her. I am sure she will try to say I am to blame but she is not fit to help people in my situation. She should have turned me away and never accepted my money. She knew my case prior to me traveling to see her and spending close to $15,000 of my hard earned savings, she has nearly destroyed my family and caused me more damage than anything that happened at my work.

Responding to a negative review is uncomfortable. Fortunately, I rarely receive a bad review, as is apparent from my reviews here on Avvo. I was tempted to ignore this comment, but not every review is legitimate or accurate. This one is bogus. The reviewer works for the federal government and is unhappy with her employer's actions, some of which took place years in the past. I understand her displeasure but she was not fired, demoted, or disciplined. At the end of a lengthy telephone call, I told the reviewer that her case did not appear viable but if she chose to continue, I would be happy to refer her to attorneys in her home state. I confirmed this in writing. She declined the referral and insisted she wanted me to represent her. After much more communication by phone and e-mail, I agreed that the reviewer could retain me to analyze her case. I offered her three options: meet with me via Skype (no travel costs); meet me in my office in San Diego; or cover my travel expenses to her state. I specifically wrote that the *only* reason for me to travel to her state was because she had a mediation date in the very near future. She elected to fly to San Diego. After meeting with her in person and reviewing her facts and documents, my assessment did not change – her case was not viable. The reviewer was not happy with my analysis. The reviewer had *two* previous attorneys before she ever contacted me; neither was satisfactory to her, either. She did not disclose the details of her previous legal representation before she met with me. If she had, I may have been forewarned. I always want my clients to be happy with my services and regret that the reviewer was not.

Very competent

Even she does not take cases like mine, she took her time to give some advises and that, for me, show her character. I wish to have her as my representative.

Thank you Mika and Avvo

Mika Spencer settled my case and did a superb job. My employer was hard to deal with while I was still working there and after I left. His attorney was also hard to deal with. That is why I had to get legal representation. I found Mika on Avvo and I am glad. First I called two other lawyers but they... never called me back. After Mika’s paralegal called me back and got my information, then Mika called me and we talked and then she made an office appointment for me. Then at the appointment she read my papers and asked questions then agreed to take my case. I loved that Mika sent me emails with copies of everything my boss sent her and his lawyers sent her and everything Mika sent to his attorney. I liked it that Mika kept me informed. I never had to ask what was going on. I am satisfied with Mika and how she represented me. I am glad the Avvo web-site listed her and I thank Avvo for providing this place for questions and answers. It is helpful to people like me who don’t know where to find good lawyers.
