Michael Dallo, CPA, JD, LL.M. is a tax attorney and certified public accountant of Dallo Law Group, a Professional Corporation. For over 10 years, Michael has assisted his clients in developing sound tax positions and arguments to minimize their federal and state tax liability as well as zealously representing his clients in resolving tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing agencies. Michael’s practice focuses on tax controversy matters including audit reprentation, administrative appeals, tax debt settlements, tax litigation, and criminal tax defense.
Michael frequently represents his clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), California Franchise Tax Board (FTB), State Board of Equalization (BOE) and the Employment Development Department (EDD). He understands that mastering the practice of tax law requires extensive experience and education. For that reason, Michael has dedicated and focused his professional experience and education to the practice of tax.
Tax Experience
Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael worked as a certified public accountant in the Tax Department of a multi-national Fortune 500 Company where he conducted significant tax research and worked with tax attorneys to resolve multi-million dollar tax disputes with the IRS and various state taxing agencies. Michael also ran his own CPA firm where he prepared hundreds of tax returns for individuals and small businesses. In his CPA practice, Michael frequently represented clients in audit representation and achieved superb results.
Among his many experiences, while in law school, Michael was a teaching assistant for a Tax Court Judge, worked in the Tax Department of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Paris, France, and worked for the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. While at the Department of Justice, Michael studied the procedures and policies of the government in Federal Tax cases and was trained by US Trial Attorneys. Michael is thrilled to utilize those tactics and skills for the benefit of our clients. Michael also consulted for a San Diego based tax controversy law firm. During his tenure, he assisted in the preparation of complex individual and corporate income tax returns, prepared opinion letters on financial transactions involving significant tax positions, and also assisted in developing successful legal arguments in response to IRS demands in audits that helped save clients thousands of dollars in tax savings.
Michael also serves as general counsel for Dallo & Co., Inc. a conglomerate of thirteen grocery stores in San Diego (Jonathan’s, Harvest Ranch and Foodland Markets) where he advises on tax issues, contract and lease negotiations, and employment issues for over eight-hundred employees.
Tax Education
Michael brings unparalleled credentials to our client’s tax disputes. He holds a Master of Laws in Taxation Degree (LL.M) from New York University, which is the most prestigious and highest ranked graduate tax program in the nation. Michael obtained his Law Degree (J.D.) from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude (Top 5%) and was the recipient of the “Ralph Gano Miller Tax Award” for the highest overall grade point average in the area of taxation in his graduating class. Michael obtained two bachelor degrees, in Accounting and Business Administration, from the University of San Diego where he graduated Magna Cum Laude (Top 10%).
Michael is fluent in Spanish and Chaldean-Aramaic.
