Review the contract carefully: "Team Mediation" concerns.
I hired Kevin Chroman’s firm for mediation, but potential clients should be aware of two specific terms in the paperwork I signed that negatively affected my case.
The 'Medical' Clause: The divorce judgment drafted by the firm included a requirement (Clause 13a) that I take specific medications an...d report changes in my medical treatment directly to my ex-husband. I was uncomfortable that my private medical information had to be shared in this way, which felt invasive to my privacy.
The 'Self-Represented' Status: The retainer agreement (Page 5, Section 11) designated me as 'Petitioner in Pro Per' (Self-Represented). This meant that while the firm's staff drafted the legal orders, I was required to file them as if I had written them myself. Because of this status, the firm did not appear on the record in court.
I attempted to resolve these issues through a formal complaint, but the State Bar closed the matter because the retainer agreement I signed fully disclosed that I would be 'Self-Represented.' I am sharing this so others understand that signing this contract means you are legally acting as your own attorney.
