Unauthorized Charges

I did not personally hire McCready Law Group — my mother did. However, my credit card was used in connection with this matter without my authorization, and I am currently disputing charges exceeding $3,000. When I raised concerns about the unauthorized charges and initiated a dispute, I received c...ommunications from the firm that escalated the situation rather than resolving it professionally. The messages included allegations of fraud and statements indicating they would pursue criminal complaints if the chargebacks were not reversed immediately. As someone with documented disabilities and who relies on a service dog for medical support, the tone and escalation of these communications caused significant stress during an already difficult situation. My experience was that billing concerns were not handled in a clear or professional manner, and instead became confrontational and pressure-driven. I am sharing this so others are aware to carefully monitor authorization, billing practices, and communication style in any engagement.

Connor did authorize the charges. This was investigated by a third party agency that reviews these complaints and the ruling was in my favor. The State Bar has not taken any action on Connor's complaints, in part because of the evidence that I have that he authorized the charges. The client in question was his mother. His mother came to my office with her son, Connor. Connor authorized the charges at my office and again over the phone. I didn't steal his credit card and the accusation that I somehow got ahold of his credit card without his permission and charged it is beyond ridiculous. Connor and his mom have perpetrated similar scams with other attorneys and with the Orange County Superior Court. Connor's mother was reprimanded by a commissioner with the Orange County Superior Court for perpetrating a fraud on the court. These two work as a team and all professionals should be aware of how they get people to do work for them and then try to scam the very people who worked hard for them. Ultimately, I refused to continue representing Connor's mother because she had lied to me too many times and gotten caught lying to me and to the court.

His firm settled one of my debts for 30% of the amount owed.

Mr. McCready works for the Law Offices of Thomas K. McKnight. The firm's ads claim that they can reduce debts by negotiating with creditors. I was skeptical that they could cut my debt in half. However, I did not want to file for bankruptcy for personal reasons. I was very relieved when I was cal...led within 3 weeks of joining the program that they had already negotiated a settlement of one of my credit cards for about 30% of the amount owed. I will be even more relieved when they settle my debt with Wells Fargo. However, I am very pleased with the service so far. They call me regularly to make sure that I am not being bothered by collection agencies. Almost all of the calls have stopped. The bill collectors that do call are warned that I am represented by an attorney and the calls immediately stop.
