Five years ago, my life was turned completely upside down. My biggest cheerleader, my Father, was killed in an accident involving a truck from Canada. I’ll never forget the feeling of hearing the words that my Dad had been killed and thinking, “How will I ever make this okay? We shouldn’t be having this conversation—it’s Mom’s birthday and they’re supposed to be here to visit their grandson and celebrate their birthdays!”
As I come to the 5-year anniversary of my Dad’s death I decided that writing this letter was the right thing to do and might be part of the healing process. I’ll write it so that you can share it with prospective clients who may find comfort knowing what you’ve done for others who faced similar situations.
Within days of my Dad’s funeral, I contacted the trucking company whose response was, “Why do you think anyone here wants to talk to you?” I was at a loss—they were in Canada, my Mom was in NC and I was in CT. How could I take care of everyone and find justice for my Dad? Then a package came from your firm. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if filing a suit was the right thing to do or not. However, I decided that the only way to make the company think about what they were doing and who they were putting behind the wheel was from the financial perspective.
Paul, your strength in the negotiations that day in Maryland. Again, I felt your compassion and at the same time, your willingness to be the voice for my Dad and my family. Daddy would have loved you all and I know his spirit smiled to know that you were helping us, who he’d left behind and lived through this process.
The fact that we came to Maryland for mediation and we had three attorneys sitting with us at the table was amazing to me. To consider that with the caseloads you carry and all the good you do for your clients—we had Paul and Clark who had flown across the country from California to support us. And we had Cara who had been with us throughout the process. That day, you all treated my family with such respect and compassion—(as you had throughout)—you wanted our voices to be heard and our stories to be shared. After it all you were so concerned about getting me back to the airport and ensuring that I was in a safe, convenient and comfortable spot. You stayed with us until the Medicare questions were finally solved. You didn’t walk away when we had payment in hand—you stayed until the job was done—every “i” dotted and “t” crossed. You were and are amazing.
Your hard work has enabled my Dad to leave a legacy behind that will make a huge difference in my son’s (Michael -7) life. It is amazing that out of such tragedy a good life lesson is learned. That lesson is that there are wonderful people in this world who are willing to help others. Thank you all for everything! I wish there were a better way of expressing my gratitude as those words seem entirely too small for what you came to mean in my Dad’s life. My Dad would have been proud to have you all working for him.
I’m proud to know you.
Please feel free to share my information with anyone. I’d love the opportunity to repay you in some small way for all you’ve done.
Also, to be able to help someone else through their difficult time would be an honor.
I give you my highest recommendation. Thank you!

My family hired Baum Hedlund to represent us in our case against the trucking company responsible for the death of my mother. From the first moment that we met Paul Hedlund, we knew that we were in good hands and those responsible would be held accountable. He made it very clear from the start that it would not happen overnight, but we knew however long it took, that Baum Hedlund was also in it for the long haul. They continually illustrated their commitment and followed through on everything they told us during our initial consultation, that everything would be taken care of by them throughout the case. Integrity counts! Your organization has earned the endorsement of our entire family. Families and individuals who allow you the opportunity to represent them are making an extremely wise decision. They will recognize immediately that they have made the right choice in Baum Hedlund, we know we did.
