Matthew Barhoma of Power Trial Lawyers represented me in my case after I was served with a Petition for a Civil Harassment Restraining Order. This was a case in which I was very concerned about my chances of winning, but Matthew's diligent, excellent work and commitment to fully apprehending the nuan...ces of the subject matter at hand resulted in him winning my case. He advocated perfectly on my behalf, including stressing to the court that the bulk of what the Petitioner was claiming was harassment was, in fact, actually First Amendment-protected speech that I had engaged in in my role as an independent journalist. Matthew made a flawless cross-examination of my Petitioner that exposed the disingenuousness of her claims against me. He also made me feel very much at ease, including by shooting me encouraging facial expressions when the Judge would say something that aligned with Matthew's stance in his advocacy of me. He told me the work he was retained for was not subject to certain stipulations. The petition was denied for the exact stipulations he told me did not apply. He missed a court hearing and only found out about it when I notified him almost a year later. I felt that the petition he was going to be re...tained for was frivolous and either I could do it myself or it didn't have much value and he told me that the petition would hold more value with his name on it. We decided to retain him based on those assurances which in hindsight were grandiose. We feel misled and taken advantage of.

My fiancé's family hired this attorney. This was 5 YEARS AGO! My fiance is still in jail, paid 25K to get NOTHING. He is not responsive, he doesn't provide updates unless you hunt him down. He will NOT fight for you unless he sees value (money) apparently 25K isnt enough. My fiance is still trying to... figure out where he is in his case. He was constantly told this will take time but it's been 5 years & no proper update have been provided recently BUT he will find a way to ask for more money. He will charge you for EVERYTHING. I would not recommend this lawyer. If you aren't a celebrit or paying over 50K he will take your money & prolong his assistance to the point of filing negligence against him. Currently doing so now.

Working with him has been terrible. Before paying him the actual fee he requested after the $5000 case review he returned calls. The moment he received the $25,000, all communication stopped. Matthew was asked if he review the case and previous appeals, he said yeah. After several emails and mess...age telling him to file the case in the 5th district he file the case where he wanted to so that confirmed that he did not properly review the case. A denial was sent on behalf of my case. As I knew it would because of the lack of Matthew’s review and knowledge. An adequate case review would’ve lead to correct filings in the right district. When he finally returned the last call he made after wasting our time. He mentioned that another attorney would be reaching out. We have yet to receive anything from him or the supposed other attorney! Nothing to go off of or reach out to.Now of close to $30,000 with no results. I’m currently looking for an attorney to sue him. I got his personal info.
