Rachel L. Shelstad is a native Nevadan and her family has resided in Las Vegas since 1950. Ms. Shelstad joined GEICO Staff Counsel in March of 2017. As an employee of the Government Employees Insurance Company, Ms. Shelstad engages in the defense of civil litigation including claims for personal injury, property damage in state and federal courts, and the prosecution of claims for subrogated interests.
Ms. Shelstad previously joined Hurtik Law & Associates in 2013, and focused her practice on general civil litigation, commercial litigation, construction defect, trust and estate litigation, real estate litigation, transactional, probate and criminal law.
Ms. Shelstad graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2006. Ms. Shelstad was elected to the Pi Mu Epsilon, National Honorary Mathematics Society, Nevada Beta Chapter, in recognition of superior achievement in the field of mathematics. Ms. Shelstad graduated William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2010.
Ms. Shelstad previously worked as a law clerk for another well-known Las Vegas law firm where she primarily practiced criminal law, complex civil litigation, administrative law and appeals in the Ninth Circuit.
Ms. Shelstad is admitted to practice in all Nevada State Courts, Federal Court for the District of Nevada and the Supreme Court of Nevada. Ms. Shelstad is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Association, Nevada Justice Association and Young Lawyers Section.
