About John

Learn John’s areas of practice.

Practice areas
  1. Criminal defense
For federal and state crime law, sometimes, the evidence of guilt may be so compelling that a client wants to enter a plea agreement to resolve the matter as quickly as possible. Mr. Samore uses his knowledge and experience to obtain dismissals and verdicts of "not guilty" by guarding the rights of the accused. He uses his vast background and respectful relationship with prosecutors and law enforcement agents to get the most reasonable dispositions for every client.

    39 years, 1,250 cases

  2. Divorce and separation
Divorce and dissolution are virtually the same thing in New Mexico, but in severe economic times, such as we suffer today, sometimes a legal separation may turn out to be a reasonable alternative in order to protect a person’s healthcare coverage or resolve other issues when assets are severely limited. Our office has handled nearly 400 divorces, and experience is important with efforts to resolve property, debt, and distribution of assets issues.

    39 years, 350 cases

  3. Sex crime
The allegation alone devastates not just the accused but also the family of the accused, and we take such allegations very seriously. In the last 20 years, federal laws in particular have increased enormously the penalties for a person accused of a sex offense. Mr. Samore has defended over 150 alleged sex offenses and believes that far too often these cases arise from marital or custody disputes or eagerness to blame an innocent person.

    39 years, 150 cases

  4. Family
Few aspects of life prove more gut-wrenching and painful than divorce or dissolution of marriage. At jeopardy is a person's feeling of self-worth, opportunity. These risks also apply, not just the husband and wife, but also to children, close relatives, and friends. You have committed your time and your financial future to your marriage and you will benefit greatly from having a clear-thinking, experienced attorney protecting your interests at each of the many critical stages.

    39 years, 350 cases

For almost thirty years, John Samore has emphasized professional competence and personal service.  After ten years in a general law, Mr. Samore  focused his practice almost entirely on two challenging areas: families in crisis and defending persons accused of criminal conduct.

Mr. Samore acquired his appreciation for the law from his father, Edward, who practiced 57 years.  Both gentlemen  graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law.  Admitted to practice in New Mexico in 1989, John Samore has effectively represented almost 1000 accused of criminal conduct and handled 300 family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, and time-sharing.  As with any of the state's best attorneys, his clients have found successful results at the trial, pre-trial, and appellate levels.  He believes a case is built by personally working closely with each client.  Respect for the personal struggle of the entire families is always a paramount concern

Mr. Samore has served as  member or officer of many recognized professional organizations including the Medical Review Panel, New Mexico Criminal Defense Attorney Association, and the state bar.  He twice served terms as Chair of the Medical Review Panel, New Mexico Criminal Defense Attorney Association, Professionalism Committee for nine years, and Fee Arbitration Committee for sixteen years.  He has his Masters Degree in Business Labor Law and J. D. from University of Iowa in 1980 and was admitted to United States Supreme Court 1981, New Mexico Bar 1989.  Mr. Samore has spoken to professional organizations on various matters including trial practice, minority representation, and defending DWI.

Fresh out of law school, John twice ran in the Olympic Trials, representing the USA in seven international meets, and earning two national championships himself.  He and his wife have six children and three grandchildren.

I owe this attorney such a debt of gratitude
Mr. Samore did so much for my case, I can't even express how much he helped my son and I. Without going into details of my case, I will say that this attorney helped to get my son out of a dangerous situation and in so doing, saved his life. Mr. Samore became so involved with my case through the course of 4+ years that he worked on my case. He is the type of attorney that I can call and hear back from him within a few hours. This is not the case with attorneys who work in large firms, where there is a sea of red tape to get through, to just leave a message. If you need an attorney who will actually pay attention to your case and knows you and the details of your case, this is the attorney for you. He doesn't pull any punches and is very experienced. I would absolutely recommend this attorney to friends and family. In fact, I already have. I walked into his office in 2008, not knowing the journey that we would find ourselves going through together. It is now 2015, and I am happy to call Mr. Samore a family friend. It was good having a great attorney and a great person by my side through the tears, and the victories. My case was a really rough one and looking back, I can't imagine going through it all with another attorney. A big huge thank you to Mr. John Samore for being a top notch attorney and such a great person!

Excellent Advocate
I am a digital forensic examiner and worked with Mr. Samore on a case. Mr. Samore was always professional and very easy to talk with. He explained legal concepts in a way that the non-legal mind could follow, he was very passionate about his work and he asked great questions about the forensics in this case and was eager to learn. I would highly recommend Mr. Samore and would not hesitate to use him myself for legal matters.
