Tom Bouman came highly recommended by my financial manager in the Boston area. I'd known for years that I should have an estate plan, but kept putting it off. Because I am single, I have no children, and since 2014, I am no longer a property owner I kept thinking it was less important for me than f...or me than for my friends and family who own homes, have heirs and have assets to safeguard. My excuses wore thin and my New Year's resolution for 2018 was to finally get it done. The only times in my life I had visited an attorney was to sign closing documents on home mortgages. I anticipated that this visit would somehow be more complicated and stressful but it was not. Tom's process for determining my needs was painless and enlightening. He educated me about end-of-life issues. He guided me to making choices that will work for me and also for those who will act on my behalf if/when I cannot. The more we talked the more relaxed and confident I felt. He clearly understands estate planning from every angle and has mastered the challenge. I kept thinking how lucky I was to have been steered to this brilliant man who was so down to earth and easy to talk to. As he described the series of documents that would constitute my estate plan I assumed the cost would be a couple thousand dollars (and thought he would be worth it). My jaw dropped when he quoted a figure less than half of what I expected. My next surprise and delight was when he said he could have my documents ready to sign in an hour or so if I could stick around while he prepared them! Did I mention that he was the only person in the office. He prepared the documents himself, printed copies for me to sign and take with me and provided me with a thumb drive containing all the documents. His package included guidance on what to do to assure my estate plan was effective for me including: to discuss my wishes with significant others, where to keep copies, and when updates may be needed. I was impressed by his mastery of the process from soup to nuts. The efficiency he gains by doing everything himself is apparent, and probably explains how he can keep his fees so reasonable. I hope my experience with Tom will be helpful to others like me who may be dragging their feet about getting their affairs in order. I walked out of Tom's office feeling like I was on top of the world. It was a great way for me to start the new year. I encourage anyone who is hesitating to get this life task completed, to get going and get it done. It can be a terrific experience with the right person guiding you.
