I decided to go with them because I was able to make payments through a third party "payday loan like company", and I was so bankrupt I couldn't afford to do it any other way. But boy I wish I would have just saved up or borrowed the $ 800 to go through my previous lawyers Berry & Tripp. But I didn't so now I'm make $300 monthly payments for a total of $2100, and what a rip off. This law firm passes u around from person to person like a $10 hooker, you never get the same person twice, and nobody has any idea what's going in with ur case. Then they tell you someone will call you back and nobody does. You have to call and call to get a response. They made so many errors through out my case. But this last one was the biggest, I had signed reaffirming paper with the bank to keep my car, they were going to add missed payments to the rear of my loan, and I could start making timely payments. Well to my suprise I woke up one morning a couple of weeks ago to the bank towing my car away. When I called the bank they said they never received any response from my lawyer, and because of my bankruptcy status were unable to notify me. When I call Mawhinney office no one seems to know what happened, and each time the say they'll look into it and call me back. No one calls back, I have called a dozen times and still no answers. No one there seems bothered by what happen to me. I understand my part to blame in this, I'm a single mom who works hard and was going to school, and doing the best I could, but due to my mother becoming ill, and me becoming her primary caretaker until she passed last year. And now my own health issues in the past year, I got behind, and when I realized how deep I was and unable to help myself I ran to them look for guidance, help, protection. And got no guidance, to fend for myself, and no protection. So if you are looking for a good law firm, one that cares, returns your calls, answers your questions, remembers you and your situation, and honestly cares, do not go there!!!! I repeat do not use them!!!

First off, you won't actually see or talk to an actual attorney up front. Next, everything you discuss regarding how things should work with the initial "case manager" could severely change by the time the atty actually gets around to reviewing your case--at least that's what happened in my situation. I had some issues to my case, and was very direct in asking up front how things would go. There was never any hedging about how things would be--in other words, the "case manager" never cautioned me on any of the specific items I discussed with him. Rather, he made me feel that all would be well, and would be handled just like the others I had consulted with. But then, once the staff atty from this firm finally contacted me, there were all kinds of problems. Frankly, I final asked him "how long have you been doing this?" Well, for 7 years. I needed an atty/law firm that would be a bit aggressive and have some balls. These guys wanted to sell me down the river...obviously did not want to have to deal with actually working or fighting for me; just wanted to fill out paperwork and collect a nice fee. I did not walk, I ran, straight to an atty who had handled a previous case for me. He's been around 20 years...when I told him what the Mawhinney firm said about my situation, he laughed. And he confirmed what he'd told me before regarding how my case should (will!) go. The "new" guy is much more expensive up front...but the money to Mawhinney was simply a waste. Also, Mr. Mawhinney himself does not even apparently handle many if any cases himself. So, buyer beware! If you've got a nice simple situation, might be fine. But if you've got any kind of issues at all, Mawhinney firm will not do much for you. Frankly I don't believe the atty that handled my case anyway had the skill or want to actually be my attorney. Hell, I could probably just fill out the paperwork for a case myself these days! I needed an atty for heck sakes...
