Steven Rodemer is consistently recognized as one of the premier Criminal and DUI Defense attorneys in the State of Colorado. Having been born and raised in Colorado, Steve attended Cornell College, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He then attended California Western School of Law in San Diego, where he was completed an internship with the California Innocence Project and then worked with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, one of the nation’s most prestigious prosecutor’s offices.
Steve returned to Colorado and accepted a position as a Deputy District Attorney in the Fourth Judicial District (El Paso and Teller Counties) As a Deputy DA, Steve initially prosecuted DUI cases, serious traffic offenses, domestic violence cases, and other misdemeanors. He was promoted to the felony prosecution unit, where he prosecuted a wide range of felony cases from simple theft and drug cases, to homicides and assaults. Finally, Steve was assigned a coveted position as a member of the Vehicular Homicide/Vehicular Assault team, where he vertically prosecuted fatal traffic accidents, DUI and reckless driving charges resulting in death and serious bodily injury, and homicides. Before leaving the DA’s Office, Steve received the “Tradition of Excellence” Award.
Following several years as a Deputy DA, Steve joined McDowell, Laybourne & Rodemer, LLC as a partner in criminal defense and, after being with the firm for several years, Steve began his own practice. Today, Steve is widely recognized as one of the premier trial attorneys in the State of Colorado. He has been named as one of the Top 40 Attorneys Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers every year since 2012; in 2013, 2014 and 2015 he was named as one of the "Top 100 DUI Attorney's" by the National Advocacy for DUI Defense. In both 2014 and 2015, Steve was named as a "Rising Star" by SuperLawyers, an honor reserved for only 2.5% of attorneys statewide, encompassing every practice area. In 2015, Steve was the only DUI attorney selected statewide to receive this honor. Being selected by SuperLawyers is widely regarded by attorneys and judges as one of the most coveted distinctions an attorney can receive during their career. In fact, many law school rankings consider the number of alumni selected by SuperLawyers every year as an indication of the quality of attorneys the law school produces. Steve has been selected by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Lawyers as one of the Top 10 Attorneys Under 40 in Colorado, and in 2015, Steve was named as one of the 10 Best Attorneys in Colorado by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys. His firm was also named one of the 10 Best Law Firms in the Colorado by the American Institue of Criminal Law Attorneys. Moreover, because of his undergraduate education in biochemistry, Steve understands the science behind modern forensic analysis (including chemical testing of blood for alcohol and drugs, and breath testing for alcohol), and he is able to use that to his clients advantage. He is a member of the prestigious National College for DUI Defense, and holds the rating of “Superb” by Avvo, as well as many other awards and recognitions. Steve is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association. Steve has tried nearly every type of criminal case, and he continues to do so on a very regular basis, with outstanding results. Steve regularly receives inviations to speak to both legal and non-legal groups about various aspects of criminal law. When not in the courtroom, Steve is an avid golfer.
