I have been practicing law for over 20 years -- the first 3 years as a personal injury defense counsel in a general practice firm where I also was involved in DUI defense and appellate work. I then practiced in Vermont and New Hampshire in a wide variety of areas, including DUI Defense, appellate cases at the Vermont Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, plaintiff's personal injury and contracts cases. I opened my own practice in Boulder, Colorado in 2005 at 6th Avenue and Canyon Boulevard, directly across Canyon Boulevard from the Boulder County Justice Center. In 2011 I opened a second office in Nederland, Colorado while maintaining my office in Boulder to accommodate a growing number of clients from a wide array of places from the cities and suburbs of Denver/Boulder to the mountain regions across Colorado.
As a practical and personal matter, I aim to treat each and every client as the unique person he or she deserves to be treated -- with respect, straight talk and the understanding that his/her case is not just a file but represents extremely important interests of a fellow human being -- specifically, one's freedom and availing one's self of the protection guaranteed to each individual under the United States and Colorado Constitutions and other protections afforded by law, statutory of judicially made.
By approaching each person's case, with this mind, it is easy to keep it mind each person deserves my hardest efforts, creative thought, and as much time and effort to ensure the best possible outcome for my client.
Specifically, I approach the practice of law from the practical and realitic perspective of my clients while maintaining the utmost respect for the rule of law, our Constitutions (State and Federal), as well as for those who are privileged enough to administer these important, fundamental institutions.
As George Eliot once wrote: "What do we live for but to make like less difficult for each other," one cannot overlook the fact that lfe can be extraordinarily difficult for all from time to time. And secondly, because the rule of law is the bedrock of our civilization, the practice of law merges two profound labors of love as I said about a decade ago when asked why I practice law:
"The honor and privilege of practicing law, specifically, criminal defense, presents two of the greatest labors of love I've experienced in life: protecting the Constitution for present and future generations while being uniquely positioned to simply help others."
