The only thing more devastating than being injured in a car accident was my experience with the Ramos injury firm.
On Dec 26, 2012, I was on my way home from work as a massage therapist and was in an accident caused by another driver who was not paying attention. After the accident, my body was me...ssed up from head to toe. I had whiplash, my vision was blurred, my jaw was out, a rib was out, my neck and back ached, my right ankle, knee and hip were impacted greatly from the force of the collision. I attempted to work through it, but my job was too physical and I was in too much pain to do that job or even stand for an 8 hour shift at a temp agency. This accident affected my entire life! I thought Atty Ramos was the right one to help me get a fair settlement for all I went through. He referred me to a doctor whose solution was to give me steroid injections (instead of actually helping me heal). The office staff were nice, but I was assigned to Atty Jim Colgan. My first sense was that this atty was not going to help me, so I requested to be assigned to a female attorney. I was ignored and after a second conversation with the atty, I again requested another atty. I was brushed off and at the third time I made the request I was more adamant because I knew atty Colgan was not interested in helping me win my case. Again, I was denied and told that 'nobody had ever demanded a different attorney", they refused to change my atty, and I was stuck with atty Colgan who kept making mistakes on paperwork he refused to correct. His attitude toward me was belligerent. He said I lived in Longmont when the accident happened (I lived in Denver). He put that I worked for a company I never worked for. He also stated I was out of work for only a month, when in fact I had been out of work over 6 months. At mediation he told me that I would only have a 10 percent chance of winning my case in court (even though the other driver was at fault and ticketed!) They brought up and old chiropractor's opinion that I wouldn't be able to do massage again after a prior accident even though I was actually doing massage for 9 months already when this recent accident occurred. AT mediation, I spoke with Ramos on the phone and he promised that if I settled there he would not charge me his usual fee and just split the balance with me at the end. I felt dejected that he was unwilling to help me in court, and felt I had no choice but to agree to their low settlement offer. I agreed to his deal as we had a witness in the room. In the end, when I went to collect the final check (I ended up with about 2,300 which did not cover lost wages or future care), I discovered that he did not keep his word and did not split the balance in half as promised. The manager, Brian Calendra spoke to me on the phone and threatened that we could take it to a judge if I had a problem with it. I was told I should be happy with what I got and that they never drop their fee. (I should be happy he didn't keep his word?) I was angry because I knew he wouldn't do what he promised in the mediation. I feel they didn't want to help me in court from the get go and now I will tell everyone I know not to go there. I am actually surprised at all the good reviews and wonder why I was treated so poorly by the Ramos injury firm. I believe it is because I am on the lower income scale and my injuries didn't seem to matter to them. (As a therapist, I only worked part time hours, but made about 50.00 an hour with tips. Now I work 40+ hours at a job in another field.) ALSO, my colleague who did acupuncture on me was sent a check for 800.00, even though she billed them for 2,100.00. I thought that was interesting that they didn't even ask her if she would reduce her fees. She had to contact them to let them know that was unacceptable.
After this experience, I would never recommend this firm or anyone who works for them to anyone.
