Sean Connelly is a partner at Reilly Pozner LLP.
He focuses his practice on civil and criminal appeals in the federal courts. He has argued more than 100 appeals in 11 federal courts of appeals, in the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and in other state appellate courts. His practice also includes complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense in federal and state trial courts.
From 2008 to 2011, Sean served on the Colorado Court of Appeals. As an appellate judge, he authored more than 40 published opinions and scores of unpublished opinions in civil and criminal appeals.
Sean returned to Reilly Pozner, where he had been a named partner, in 2011.
Prior to first joining the firm in 2002, Sean worked as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., and Denver. His positions included Special Attorney to two U.S. Attorneys General and Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Appellate Section. He was a member of the trial team and the government’s lead appellate lawyer in the Oklahoma City bombing prosecutions.
Prior to joining the Justice Department, Sean worked in private practice in Washington, D.C. Before that, he was a law clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Sean’s work as a judge and lawyer has resulted in several recognitions. He was recently named the 2013 Denver Appellate Practice "Lawyer of the Year" by The Best Lawyers in America® and has been listed in that publication for many years under in the specialties of Appellate Practice and White-Collar Criminal Defense. In 2009, Colorado Law Week voted him Colorado’s Outstanding Appeals Court Judge. He has also been selected for inclusion in Colorado Super Lawyers®.
Sean currently chairs the five-person Criminal Law drafting committee for the National Conference of Bar Examiners, which administers the multistate bar examination. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Colorado and University of Denver law schools, teaching courses in Evidence and Criminal Procedures.
