About James Garts

About me

I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, graduated with my B.A. from Colorado College, in Colorado Springs and obtained my Juris Doctor in 2002 from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.

I began my legal career in Memphis and initially worked in a variety of legal areas ranging criminal law to medical malpractice defense.  I was always interested in equity and the harm injustice inflicts upon society. Lured back by my love of Colorado, I returned here in 2006, and took and passed the Colorado Bar Exam. I soon focused my Colorado practice in the field of family law. I consider family law a place to pursue equity with the goal of limiting the fallout of divorce on families.

I am an active volunteer with the Colorado Bar Association and have been the chairperson of both the Young Lawyers Division and the Membership Services Committee, a member of the CBA Economic Task Force served a term on the CBA Executive Counsel and was the young lawyer liaison to the CBA Board of Governors. At the local bar association level, I was appointed to the 1st Judicial District Board of Trustees and later was their liaison to the CBA Board of Governors.

My education, personal and professional experiences motivate my desire to seek equity and truth as an attorney.

During my free time, I am an avid road and mountain bicyclist.
