I wanted to review Mat because of the job he did on my Child Support case. I was served with papers from the court requesting that I go to jail for delinquent child support payments. When I met with Mat, I was pretty scared about my situation. He explained exactly what the documents meant and how t...o defend me in court. He guided me through the attorney general court process so that I would understand what was going to happen in court. He didn’t make unrealistic promises for my case, but assured me we had a good gameplan. My case was dropped and dismissed. I am out of trouble and current on my child support payments thanks to Mat. He was awesome from the beginning to the end.

If you’re looking for a family law attorney, Mat is who you want, hands down. I had the best experience with him, despite going through a stressful and upsetting time in my life. I am located out-of-state and needed to find a Texas attorney without getting to meet them in person. It made me nervo...us to hire an attorney for something as delicate as a divorce and custody case, without actually meeting them, but after talking to Mat for the first time, I knew I could put my trust in him. Mat was quick to respond to me every single time. Whether it was by phone, email, or text, he made sure to be available. Even at hours that I didn’t expect him to be working. (And in case you’re wondering, NO, he wasn’t charging hourly for this. Mat did not seem money-motivated, like some other attorneys are. Instead, Mat seemed to have a genuine interest and passion for law and for helping his clients.) He always took the time to listen to me, answer all my question, and explain things in ways that I could understand by translating the legal jargon. I was pretty overwhelmed with everything going on, and it was confusing with divorce filings both in my state and in my husband’s state (Texas), so I’m sure I might have asked the same question more than once, but Mat was always full of patience, re-explained things for me, and kept it real. He didn’t try to over-promise or focus on the “best outcome” or the “likely outcome”....He made sure to keep me aware of all potential outcomes. I think that is so important. My divorce/custody case was unique because it involved simultaneous filings in two different states, which I guess doesn’t happen all too often. Mat took the time to research the laws to make sure everything was handled appropriately. Also, the Texas divorce filing was not in Travis/Williamson County where Mat offices out of, but Mat agreed to take the case anyway, and travel. Prior to finding Mat, I checked with several other Austin-area law firms, who wouldn’t consider traveling to another county. I was very grateful to find someone as competent and responsive as Mat who was also willing to travel for the case. Mat handled things great and was able to provide the best outcome for me and my child. I would recommend him to anyone (and everyone) who needs a family law attorney in or around the Austin area. I had no idea when I began the divorce process that it would turn into a Greek tragedy. In that drama, I was only a minor player. There seemed to be greater forces at work because I definitely had no control. My divorce attorney, Mat Rueda, maintained his composure, professionalism, and keen insight ...despite what was happening on the legal stage. Often, my over-reaction to words and behaviors from the other side required his clear admonishment to dial back my emotions and ignore what seemed like direct attacks to my manhood, compassion, and sense of reasonableness. Mat’s been doing family law for some time. He can be trusted. He has the best interest of his clients at heart. He knows the law and is not fazed by what are often just theatrics and distractions to what is truly at stake; ending a marriage without giving away the store or losing your mind in the process. I recommend Mat. He will find a way to make sure you get the best result and keep an eye on the bottom-line cost as much as possible.
