OVER 32 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN DISCIPLINARY AND LICENSING ISSUES IN OVER A THOUSAND MATTERS.

Tony Cobos is Specialty Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Administrative Law. He has represented many clients before various health care licensing entities, as well as represented numerous clients in contested cases at the State Office of Administrative Hearings and in many peer review, state and federal Medicare reviews and Office of Inspector General actions.

A native Austinite and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin undergraduate and law school, Mr. Cobos has over 19 years of experience in health care disciplinary matters, including over 9 years legal experience at the Texas Medical Board. Mr. Cobos was promoted to the Medical Board’s highest legal position, General Counsel, in 1996. During his 9 year tenure, one of the longer tenures served by any attorney for the Medical Board, he participated in hundreds of disciplinary matters and advised the full Board on many issues. He also served as lead counsel for the Licensure Committee of the Board for many years. He also advised the Physician Assistant and Acupuncture Boards.  After successful employment at the Texas Medical Board, in 1999 Mr. Cobos joined long-time health care practitioner Michael Sharp for the formation of Sharp & Cobos, P.C., a boutique firm dedicated to the specialized and personalized needs of every health care client.

Mr. Cobos’ extensive administrative experience includes not only litigating administrative cases at the State Office of Administrative Hearings, but also having advised agency Board Members, Committees, and employees and directing extensive activities as to the licensing and regulation of physicians. In these activities, he gained  insight into the politics, procedures, and inner workings of health professional regulation in Texas, not only in regard to physicians, but in liaison with the sister health care licensing agencies to the Texas Medical Board and Texas Health Professions Council. As a result, his network base across agency staff is broad. Since entering private practice with the Firm in 1999, Mr. Cobos has also represented numerous clients in all aspects of health care delivery, including representation before regulatory agencies and hospital peer review committees, as well as advising and coordinating with criminal defense counsel in concurrent regulatory and criminal defense arenas.

Mr. Cobos appears before all health care licensing agencies and is a member of the Health Law and Administrative Law sections of the State Bar. He has also been elected by his attorney peers as a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Excellent TMB lawyer !
After receiving a letter from the Texas Medical Board I talked to four attorneys on the phone and without a doubt felt the most comfortable working with Tony Cobos . He was very frank about what he could do for us and did not give us any false expectations as to costs or outcomes. He kept me informed throughout the process and ensured I was prepared to face the informal hearing. I found Mr Cobos very knowledgeable, honest and extremely supportive. I have no doubt that he is strong force in the area of matters related to medical license. I have been very pleased and impressed by the results he gets and tons of accusations from my fired angry employee were dropped. I would highly recommend Tony Cobos to any physician who has a case with TMB.

Medical Board Issue
I received a complaint notice from the medical board. It was a situation that I knew that I was not at fault in. Mr. Cobos was readily available and handled my case professionally and the case was decided in my favor. He also helped some friends of mine who have a healthcare agency. His firm was there for them immediately when they called in distress and now they are quite pleased with my referral.

Highly Recommend for Physician Assistant!!!!
I received a complaint from the PA Board, I was going to respond myself when a friend recommended Mr Cobos, my case was simple (in my opinion) but my friend really encouraged me not to go at it alone. I didn't realize the importance of having representation even when you know you are 100% not guilty. Mr Cobos was available to speak with right away on a Friday after work, he responded to the board VERY quickly, within one week we had a response finding me without guilt on all 3 accusations. He really made this whole process easier. Dont EVER respond to the board without his assistance.

Great job
I was falsely accused of wrong doing by a family member who lost a loved one under hospice care. Tony and his team worked with me and the TX BON until the case was dismissed one year later. Tony and his team did a great job keeping me regularly informed and offering as needed advice. I am very happy with the services I received.

KNOWLEDGEABLE
I am a physician and was falsely accused by a patient. Mr. Cobos represented me. He is very knowledgeable having been on the medical Board years ago. His advice helped me extremely. He is very courteous and helped me prepare for my Informal Consent Hearing. I highly recommends him as my lawyer again if the situation arises.

My family and I are grateful
I had to deal with false accusations with the Board that should have been resolved sooner than later. Tony Cobos picked up the pieces after my case was mishandled. He gave me great advice from beginning to the end over the course of over a year. Overall, Tony recommended patience and optimism, especially at a time when I was ready to give up. When discussing my case, I realized how analytical he was with respect to every facet of my defense. I found his years of experience working for the Board and his overall disposition to be valuable assets. At my ISC, Tony dealt firmly yet cordially with Board staff and Board members. He was quick-witted and expressed himself clearly and concisely. Tony was highly instrumental in obtaining my dismissal. Also, his compassion for me and my situation was genuine and remarkable. In addition, his staff, N and R, responded to my phone calls / emails expeditiously and were extremely helpful in communicating with Board on my behalf. My family and I are forever grateful to Tony and all his supporting staff for helping to navigate through this difficult process. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!

TMB investigation.
He is an awesome guy, helped me a lot. He is very professional, soft spoken and honest guy. He knows the system well. He led me through steps slowly as this is a long process. He will tell you the truth. If you are at fault, he will tell you respectfully. He can tell you upfront what are strong and weak points in your case. I will not hesitate recommending him at all to anybody who needs legal help. Let me also say here that this system is not perfect. There are lot of kinks. Toni can help you foresee those kinks when he prepares you.

Excellent Attorney
I am a physician/attorney and found myself the subject of a medical board investigation. Even though I could have represented myself I chose to seek counsel. I wanted a respected attorney with extensive medical board experience and comprehensive administrative law knowledge. The issues in my case were complex both medically and administratively. Mr. Cobos fully prepared me as to all the factual and legal issues and we were successful in getting the matter dismissed. His knowledge was up to date regarding disciplinary process and defenses. I was quite comfortable with his understanding and ability to advocate medical defenses. His knowledge of the Texas Medical Board and the administrative law system is second to none. At every step he was able to assess potential outcomes to allow me to make well informed decisions.

Outstanding Attorney
Any physician who has had to answer to a medical board knows it is not only a legal issue, but a very personal one. Having your competency as a physician questioned is stressful, to say the least. Tony understands this better than I could ever imagine a non physician could. He recently helped me prepare a response to an initial complaint and as a consequence the complaint was dismissed without further investigation. I don't believe you can find a better attorney to stand with you and I recommend you involve him as soon as a complaint is filed.

A life saver..he's stuck with me
An absolute life saver.. In the nth hour he agreed to represent me after having been nearly financially, professionally and emotionally ruined (in part by prior counsel). He dispelled the common belief that all lawyers are arrogant. He treated me and my case with the utmost respect, compassion and passion. I felt from beginning to end my case was no less a priority to him than it was to me. He is accessible, collaborative, thorough, exhaustive in his efforts to provide the best representation possible, and always provided me with explanations and education about the law which served to enhance my faith and confidence in his representation. I never once felt an ounce of doubt in him. After my case was settled in 2006, I continue to "have Tony on retainer" to provide legal counsel regarding a variety of matters that may present in my professional practice. I feel tremendous gratitude that Mr. Cobos and I met. He is exceptionally knowledgable, he restored my faith in attorneys, and truly has been a life saver. I absolutely give him the highest recommendation.

A real relief...
I was referred to Tony by my med-mal carrier after a competitor reported me to the TMB. I hadn't violated any standards of care and Tony was quick to help me mount a formal and thorough response. Based on his advice and our experts, the TMB dismissed the 'complaint.' I can't imagine a more specialized and skilled response for me--Tony helped the Board see the situation as it was and helped exonerate me. Besides being friendly and available, I can't imagine a better attorney.

Tony Cobos is my lawyer.
Mr. Cobos defended me for a Medical Board complaint at a time when the State Legislature was leaning on the Medical Board to convict physicians for any spurious complaint. With the help of Mr. Cobos I was able to defend my professional reputation; my case was dismissed without a fine. When the Medical Board failed to post notification of dismissal of the complaint for several months, he was able to correct this failure quickly. I felt his advice was excellent and level of understanding of the process flawless. I felt very confident with Mr. Cobos in charge of my case, and would recommend him highly.

Excellent
Tony was phenomenal in representing me at the Texas board for my initial licensing. I am a surgeon and I had an administrative set back that required an interview at the full board meeting. I am very grateful for his timely intervention at the board meeting when I was kind of struggling to defend myself. He had very good understanding of my situation, he was confident, firm in his voice while trying to put the facts in front of the board members. He was able to handle it with supreme confidence. The amazing thing was, without giving me any false assurances, Tony was planning in his own mind of how to approach this battle. I have no doubt in my mind that Tony was instrumental in getting my license in the state of Texas. I am happy to inform that I am able to start my career in Texas. I am very thankful for his help.
