As an attorney, Jim Sullivan is low profile, down to earth, insightful, and most importantly, effective. I had met with other attorneys that presented a tough and flashy image and claimed to be the best in town, but I chose Jim because I trusted his integrity, capability and sincerity to do his best in representing me in the criminal case (theft) that was charged against me. I was proven to have made a sound judgment - Jim had my case totally dismissed without a trial setting, two months after the charge was made against me. From what I have observed, Jim does not just apply a standard formula to a case and then proceed in the legal system’s “production line.” Instead, he thinks outside the box and he catches details that are critical to properly define the nature of an event and he goes on to break through a seemingly impossible situation. Jim is a very good attorney, a good man and a true blessing.

Jim Sullivan helped our son and family through a very difficult time. On a Friday evening in February 2012, our son was handcuffed and taken from our home for detainment at the Juvenile facility (Fort Bend County) on a class 3 Felony charge of stalking. We were informed that we would not be able to see him until visiting hours Monday. Our lives had been turned upside down and our son’s support system (his family) had been ripped out from under him.
My husband, who is lawyer, immediately began researching Houston area juvenile attorneys. Based on Jim’s profile and qualifications, my husband called him late Friday evening. Jim answered the phone and arranged to meet us at the Juvenile Detention Facility early Saturday afternoon.
Jim connected with our son immediately. It was apparent he cared about him as a whole person, not just the kid who suddenly found himself in trouble. He was more than just a lawyer to my son. He shared his own experiences and his positive attitude about life and relationships. Jim is not only a good lawyer but a good role model for our children.
The Felony charge did not stick and we are thankful for Jim’s help and counsel.

My husband owned his own business. Due to the bad economy and not being paid on a project, one of his business checks written to a supplier bounced. We thought that the supplier would work with us, but they did not. In March of 2014, my husband was charged with a felony theft by check, a very serious charge. We have four children and he was the sole provider for our family at the time. We contacted five attorneys and met with all five, Jim Sullivan being the last appointment. When we first met him, he was very reassuring that he could help make these charges go away, interested in our story and treated us like people, not criminals as some of the other attorneys had done that day. We chose Sullivan to represent my husband and began our process.
Tragically, while we were still getting the money together to hire him, my husband was attacked and robbed by several men the night before our next court setting. They stole the money we had to pay Sullivan and the vicious assault left my husband severely injured. I was frantic that night trying to get him to a hospital to treat him without health insurance while also arranging care for my children. We literally drove all over town. After being turned away for treatment in the Cypress area, we finally wound up in the Houston medical center. It was early the next morning before my husband underwent a CAT scan and MRI that confirmed he had a broken neck and nerve damage to several vertebrae. The doctors were trying to determine if and when he would need surgery.
Throughout that day and night and ever since, Sullivan was there with complete understanding and reassurance that we would be okay. I was able to contact him several times throughout that initial traumatic day by phone and text message. He advised me to get the hospital to fax over records showing that he was in hospital and could not be in court. Unfortunately, they did not do so and by the time I got his discharge papers the court had already revoked his bond. Sullivan contacted the court, explained the situation and told them that he was my husband’s attorney whether he had been paid yet or not, persuaded the court to reinstate the bond and to give my husband a longer reset.
Sullivan was genuinely interested in and cared about my husband’s health and the overall well-being of my family. There were times that he was one of the only people I could turn to that was telling me everything was going to work out in our lives and in the charges against my husband. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason and that God puts people in our lives for a reason. For everything that Sullivan has done for my family, I will be forever thankful and grateful.
When we chose to hire Jim Sullivan, we also chose a friend. We will always recommend his services to friends, family, acquaintances and strangers as Sullivan truly can and did make a difference in our lives.

Best Defense Attorney in Houston, Jim Sullivan! You won t go wrong hiring this lawyer. I m very thankful, I did. Gettting a bond outta jail, my mother and friend gave me 5 lawyers to call. He was the first on the list, which they also thought was a good man to work with. He stood out with his reasonable prices, down to earth speaking, and witty humor. He explained exactly what would be the best outcome and the process in detail. He was polite and answered all my questions I had. Being the first time being locked up I was a little nervous and prayed a lot. Jim had a lot of confidence my case would be dismissed. a couple months later, he was right. All charges were dismissed. If you re looking for a Defense Attorney, who stands behind his word, and fights hard for you when you need it the most. Contact Jim, I highly recommend him.

Upon being side swiped with an assault family violence charge from the district attorney in Montgomery County, I immediately took action. First of all let me state that the charges were bogus and secondly I am a very busy and well respected business owner who would definitely feel an impact in time, money and reputation if I were convicted. I went to my first court appearance thinking it would get dismissed because I was innocent. Of course, not being a regular of the criminal “justice” system, I was dead wrong; and, in fact, I was completely beside myself with the offer I was handed by the prosecutor! It was absolutely crazy. I did not take this lightly as I am sure, and would hope, most innocent people would not. I wanted the best representation I could have; and, after being in court that first time and being approached in person by various court-appointed attorneys, various floating other counsel (or cronies as I would so frankly put it), I knew right then and there that I wanted an attorney I could trust. I was not a number or a case to be shoved through the highly packed court room! I was not an income opportunity for those in there offering me aid! Anyhow, I entered a not guilty plea and immediately started sifting through defense attorneys I found online. I have always been a good judge of character and I follow my instincts to a tee. Of the three attorneys I had decided to go talk with, James Sullivan was #1 on my list. People let me tell you, I have unfortunately been in this position only one other time in the last 20 years where I needed a high quality professional to defend myself against the government, and learned my lesson the first time. Just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. If you find yourself in a position where you need an expert, believe me that going the plea route or least costly for the moment will come right back around in a hurry and make you regret not taking the time to defend yourself with the highest quality defense you can muster. I am not saying Sullivan is expensive; in fact, his fees are comparable in cost with other defense attorneys I researched. What I am saying is that Sullivan is a man of his word and has character and clout in his profession, and I felt like I had made the right decision with my choice in hiring him throughout the entire process. He prepared well for my second court setting and stood strong for me. As he explained, Montgomery County has a “rocket docket”, meaning that cases are automatically set for trial after the second setting if they are not worked out. That trial setting is exactly two weeks later. In other words, from the first court setting to a trial is only one month. Imagine finding and hiring a good trial lawyer that quickly. Fortunately, I did just that. Unlike other attorneys in court who were negotiating plea deals for their clients, Sullivan was adamant that if the State did not dismiss the charges then he did not want to waste any further time and to just set it for a jury trial. Sullivan was not bluffing, however I preferred to resolve the case without having a criminal record and without the public spectacle of a trial, and I also did not want to participate in the BIPP program because I certainly was not a batterer. Ultimately, Sullivan forced the prosecutor to back down and got them to agree to dismiss the case after I attended 18 couples counseling sessions with my girlfriend. As we were planning to begin counseling anyway, that was not even a problem or an inconvenience. Six months later, the State dismissed the charges. It is sometimes easy to get into a position that could seriously affect you for a very long period of time. It is much more difficult to reverse the impact of events afterwards. Keep your head up, hire Attorney Sullivan and complete your goal of not becoming part of the system. Thank you so much Mr. Sullivan for your effort and care with my case. ~Satisfied Client and Business Owner, Montgomery Count

I would like to make a comment regarding Jim Sullivan. He recently represented my granddaughter in a drug case that would've been an obstacle for her future, and possibly in the way of getting into college. First we arranged a meeting at his office. He had spoken to my granddaughter, explaining that her mistake could cost her, her future. Letting her know that college is a main priority in having a successful life. He also explained to my granddaughter and I the process of going into the courtroom, and what he shall request for them to seal the case. Everything went well as planned. He is a Man of his Word. Genuinely honest, and truly cares about an individual's future. I definitely recommend him. His prices are very reasonable. I loved how everything fit in place with him being my granddaughters lawyer. He is the Lawyer that will change your life for the better. Such an amazing Lawyer. Thank you for everything.

In late May of 2016 my 15 year old son was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center for a felony crime he did not commit, Deadly Conduct. After being falsely accused and wrongfully admitted to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, I met with and hired Mr. Sullivan. He walked us through the process and helped my family and son better understand what needed to be done. The day of the detention hearing in court, we had all of the proof and evidence to help get my son out of detention. The judge of the court was completely unjust. After refusing to consider the video evidence that proved my innocent or to even hear from my family members who were willing to supervise my son at all times if released, the judge quickly ruled to keep my innocent son detained. Mr. Sullivan was furious at the system that caused my son to be arrested and held for a crime he did not commit while at the same time the adult who actually committed the crime was only charged with a misdemeanor and spent just a few days in jail. Mr. Sullivan immediately requested a trial by jury. We were able to get a trial setting in the next 3 weeks, which was amazing considering the fact that most cases take 3-6 months or longer to get to a trial. Mr. Sullivan explained that court-appointed attorneys such as the one first appointed to my son's case never take cases to a jury trial, but instead only have bench trials where the judges make the final decision. If the court-appointed attorney had stayed on the case, my son would still be in detention and I believe he would probably have been found guilty by the judge. Instead, thanks to Mr. Sullivan my son was found innocent by a unanimous vote from the jury. Mr. Sullivan stopped at nothing to help our son and prove him innocent. My son walked out of detention 7 weeks later with no record. Mr. Sullivan's knowledge of the criminal and juvenile justice systems helped in so many ways. Mr. Sullivan was not pushy, arrogant, or air-headed like most attorneys. Instead, he kept a down-to-earth low-profile, encouraged my son as if he were his own and won our case successfully and peacefully. Thank you so much Mr. Sullivan for helping my family and my son!

I was one of the 30 individuals who was arrested in Montgomery County in an online solicitation of a minor sex sting. After speaking to many attorneys in this area of practice, I chose Jim Sullivan. He took the time to hear my case out before even being hired. We literally spoke for 30-45 minutes about the severity of my case, the options and strategies I had in spear heading this case and never was I sold false hope. He was very honest and upright. His prices were reasonable. And most importantly he fought to get me a 7 year deferred adjudication in one of the most conservative counties in Texas. During the punishment hearing, he pointed out that the police used questionable tactics in luring in sex addicts like myself who otherwise might never have gotten in trouble. The police placed an ad in the casual encounters section of Craig's List about an underage girl home alone looking for fun. Craig's List is only for adults. That ad was even later flagged for removal because it broke their rules. As Sullivan pointed out, that would be no different than police placing an ad for free drugs on the social media page of N.A. or for free liquor on the page of A.A. to lure in substance abusers. It is no wonder that 30 guys showed up in such short order. These tactics by police should be against the law. They are ruining the lives of otherwise harmless addicts. I lost my job and reputation over this, but fortunately not my freedom. I highly recommend Jim Sullivan for any criminal defenses especially sex crimes. My family and I want to thank you for giving me a second chance at life. Thank you Jim.

I am truly blessed to have found Attorney James Sullivan. In March of 2014 our world was turned upside down and our experience with the juvenile justice system in Montgomery County would be one that would change our lives forever. Our 13 year old son was accused of Indecency with a Child by his 5 yr old niece, a case we were certain he was innocent of. Sullivan answered my phone call when I initially called and talked with me on the phone calming my nerves, ensuring me that everything would be okay. After meeting with Sullivan later that day, we were assured we were in good hands. Sullivan is professional, proficient, and an expert in juvenile law. Sullivan treated our son like the good person we know he is and not as a sex offender that the juvenile justice system had “already” labeled him. Sullivan responded to our e-mails and phone calls in a timely fashion, even calling us after business hours to answer questions we had to ease our anxiety. Sullivan took the time to review the evidence in our son’s case seeking out the true facts and found many weaknesses in state’s case.
Sullivan was able to persuade the prosecutor to dismiss the case before our very first court setting! Our son did not even have to meet with the juvenile probation department. The fact that our son never had to be fingerprinted nor have his mug shot taken was a blessing to us as we did not want him to experience a situation like that for a crime he did not commit.
Sullivan is very educated in the area of juvenile defense and sought justice for our son to have his name cleared of an erroneous crime. Sullivan cares for his clients and seeking just and fair representation for each person he represents. He is committed to seeing that children receive the support and counsel they need to ensure they have a voice speaking on their behalf during difficult times. I can never thank Sullivan for all that he has done for our son and family. Sullivan even educated us on things we could do to protect our son from being accused of a crime of this nature in the future. I would recommend Sullivan to anyone who is going through an ordeal in juvenile court so you can have peace of mind knowing that you and your family are being taken care of by someone who is committed to seeking justice on your behalf. Sullivan is a true blessing to everyone he comes in contact with and we are forever grateful for everything he has done for our family.

On March 4, 2016, my son was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in Montgomery County. Around 1am that night 5 men came to my son’s apartment in 2 different vehicles, one stolen along with guns, ski masks and gloves. My son heard them outside and looked from the balcony and saw one of them attempting to steal his car. Afraid and uncertain he grabbed his gun and yelled "get the hell away from my car!" The other 4 guys were heading to his apartment so my son fired 3-4 warning shots with the intention to scare them away. Unfortunately he struck one of them in the chest and they took off.
Not realizing at the time that one of them was hit he went back into the apartment. A couple hours later my son’s apartment was surrounded by state police and detectives. After receiving a phone call from the officers telling him what he had done he was left to surrender, but before he surrendered and afraid to go outside he dismembered the gun because he didn’t want the officers to think he was armed and dangerous.
Four days later we hired criminal defense lawyer James Sullivan to defend my son. That same day James visited my son in the jail and began to investigate his case. My son’s bond was $100,000 and he was a first time offender with a good history and awesome background, however he had gotten into a situation and we needed the best lawyer with a lot of experience and knowledge regarding criminal matters.
James Sullivan asked the prosecutor to hold the case from the grand jury so he could prepare a defense and also fought to get his bond lowered. After 3 court and bond hearings, James got the bond lowered from $100,000 all the way down to $15,000 and then we got him out. James then worked meticulously with my son, prepared and turned in a defense packet. A month later the grand jury dismissed my son's aggravated assault, however the prosecutor pushed for and got an indictment for tampering with evidence. The next day James went to court and fought to get a low bond on the new case of only $1,500 so that my son would not go back to jail.
We were thrilled to get the aggravated assault charge dismissed because it was the most serious but fully expected him to have to plead to the new charge. However at the next court hearing James Sullivan refused to settle and persuaded the prosecutor to do the right thing and dismiss the tampering charge as well. James knew that my son was not only a first time offender but also a hard working young man that was afraid for his life and simply defended himself and his property at nighttime. After an almost 6 month ordeal, my son got his life back. I have never personally met Mr. Sullivan. I live several states away, but he handled these cases as if I was a resident in Texas. I am so pleased with his good work that not only would I highly recommend him to others but I will definitely keep him around. Hopefully we will never need his services again but if we do James Sullivan is definitely the man that you can count on to help you and defend you properly.

My daughter Ja’Shandrah Dixon was falsely accused of Aggravated Assault on a family member back in May 2015. Terence Batiste, her baby’s daddy, has a history of family violence against her, abuses drugs and has mental problems. In fact, my daughter had sought a protective order against this man just a few weeks before this and the DA’s office refused to grant it.
On this day in May, Terence threw his bicycle in front of her moving vehicle with their young son and a family friend inside to force her to come to a screeching halt. He then cursed at her. The family friend was scared for her life and told her to drive on. To get away from him, she drove over his bicycle. Terence then lied to the police, saying she was trying to kill him. Witnesses said they heard her break but did not see her run over him. The sheriff’s deputy did not take statements from the passengers in the car. Instead, they arrested her and she was held in jail on a high bond.
I called many attorneys but could not afford them. I finally came across Attorney James Sullivan and told him about the arrest of my daughter. He told me what he charges to take on a case like this and was willing to work with me by way of a payment plan.
Attorney Sullivan was a Godsend from the very beginning. His personality was that of someone you’ve known all your life which made me comfortable in working with him. He immediately got her bond cut in half so I could bond her out. Afterwards, we all met with Attorney Sullivan. The three of us went over the case, and he told us he wanted to fight her case at the Grand Jury and that it would be much quicker and less expensive than fighting it at a jury trial. He explained the difference between having the case dismissed by the State and having it no billed by the Grand Jury.
After two months, Attorney James Sullivan called me and told me the Grand Jury no billed the case and that she could get her record expunged. I highly recommend Attorney James Sullivan.
Many thanks Attorney James Sullivan

Jim is an excellent lawyer who deeply cares for his clients. He has even taken time out of his busy schedule to help other lawyers prepare their cases. He is the rare attorney who is well-versed in adult AND juvenile criminal law. He is honest, hardworking, and is relentless in fighting for his clients.
Mark Griffith, Criminal defense Attorney
Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community
I endorse this lawyer. He has passion for every client he represents and juries see that passion and he touches their hearts. He is incredible in front of a jury because he works with them as HIS jury and they become part of the defense team, you cannot ask more than that of a criminal defense attorney. Further, he is caring, prepared, and effective. I highly recommend for any criminal matter.
