I won't go into too much detail about my case, but after hiring Tad last year to defend me on what he himself described as a "simple case" I now know that I was taken advantage of. He was so friendly and quick to respond in the beginning. However, once he has your money, he will pretty much leave you in the dark worrying and wondering about what is happening. The end result of my case was just okay and it was dismissed. But in the beginning I was told that I should not have been arrested in the first place and he would fight to get the case thrown out. I explained that I didn't want there to be a record for me to have to try to expunge later and Tad seemed to suggest that he could do that under the circumstances. It was all basically telling me what I wanted to hear just to get my money. I had a friend that was arrested at the same time as I was with the same charge. Frightened and nervous I unfortunately contacted Tad and it was a costly mistake. My friend ended up not hiring a lawyer and his case was dismissed by just showing up in court with a public defender for which he paid nothing. So, the end result of both our cases was that same except I paid $4000 to Tad Nelson for basically just showing up in court for me and not really fighting at all to get my case thrown out like he had said he would do. As another reviewer as mentioned on this website, Tad's customer service is terrible and trying to get him or his office to call or respond to you is very difficult. I might have given him more stars if he had been more forthcoming in the beginning with me about what the results would likely be and if he had at least communicated with me to keep me up to date about my case. It's horrible to pay someone and be left guessing about what is happening and also feel like you are bothering him when you do finally get a quick text back (if you're lucky). If I could go back in time, I would not have hired a lawyer at all, and I most certainly would stay away from Tad Nelson. He's not as great as his website would suggest and my experience with him was awful! To add insult to injury, I received a letter from his office months after my case was over telling me he'd be happy to explain the expungement process to me and work to get my record cleared(for an additional fee of course). NO THANKS! I'd sooner hire a different lawyer for that or leave it on my record than give Tad Nelson any more of my money...

I am not quite sure where to begin. Perhaps it would be best to draw some direct quotes from this mans website:
1. "small town values"
2. "compassionate and understanding"
3. "will treat you as a friend/with respect"
4. "we return your phone calls"
5. "we keep you informed"
6. "depend on us to be there ... during this difficult time"
7. "we understand the trauma of being arrested ... the embarrassment, humiliation, concern about family/future"
8. "we encourage our clients to ask questions"
In reference to the above quotes, I can sincerely vouch that none of them are true regarding Tad, his associates, or his staff.
So if that is the case, how did I end up with him? Well, Tad is a lawyer. And just like many mediocre lawyers, he is great at creating an outward appearance that is maintained to conceal a less pleasant or creditable reality. In other words, Tad knows just how to lure a client.
So what exactly happened? When I first arrived in his office, he was fantastic. He was energetic, talked about all his training and years of experience. He mentioned he would be there every step of the way. I mean, this man said practically everything a soon-to-be-client would want to hear. And at the end of the consultation, he mentioned his fee of nearly $10,000 and explained that the payment is due upfront.
So what happened next? I agreed to Tads terms and handed him a check trusting that he would keep his word - the same words that I hand-picked from his website and quoted at the beginning of this review.
So there I was, excited that I had hired someone who would ease my nerves regarding my current situation. Well, honestly, I have never been more wrong in my life.
It was impossible to reach this man. It was impossible to ask questions AND when questions were asked he responded arrogantly leaning back in his chair with his feet propped up. I mean this man made the process of legal trouble twice as worse. It was a living hell - hiring a man at such a rate without him providing timely reassurance or updates throughout the process. And his associates and other staff members were the same. If you call this man's office after you have paid, consider yourself lucky if he calls you back in the next 2-3 business days. In fact, I started relying on the county public records to figure out my court dates and what exactly was going on with my case.
Please understand, I refrained from mentioning specific examples for I have no intention of this man discovering who wrote this review. But I assure you, I am not one to complain and I am not one to write negative reviews, but this one is well deserved - I can think of many examples of how poorly I was treated as a client here. I want him to read this review and think about the fact that customer service is just as important as producing results. I am sure his ill-tempered demeanor will quickly respond to this just as he has responded to other poor reviews.
So why two stars and not one? Well, given that I am an educated and proactive citizen, I stayed on top of things the best I could. And with my help, Tad did produce decent results for my case. BUT I assure you that the process was horrific. And I assure you that there are better lawyers in the area that will produce great results AS WELL AS provide excellent customer service. If I could go back, I would not have chosen Tad.
If you read positive reviews on AVVO and convince yourself that I am just an isolated case, I assure you that I am not. So what now? If you are looking for a lawyer, first make a list of your needs. If you are one that blindly trusts someone regarding important legal matters and does not need updates, then Tad may serve well. But if you are anxious about the process and need helpful and respectful explanations, then look elsewhere. I wish you the best in your legal matters.
This is nothing but the truth.

When we had our first meeting with you, and what had happened, we felt completely at ease. Your confidence and knowledge in our case meant so much. With the result you achieved, it is obvious that confidence was justified. Thank you so much.

This a good man. Gave me insight into my case a few weeks ago. Was supposed to have trial March 28. ADA wasn't ready so it's seit in a month. I had an attorney but was about to fire him and Tad told me how my case will end soon and he didn't try and rip me off or scare me for pay. So I'm just praying in a month everything will be done. Thank you Tad. I will referee everyone to you

I had to go to trial in Galveston county and I was highly impressed w the attorneys they spoke and explained to the jury the case and got a not guilty verdict. Justice was served after months of the da's office not negotiating. It was truly a super lawyers work. The level of education, the background, and years of experience show a expert lawyer in a trial setting in the courtroom. A five star lawyer in Texas criminal defense work.

Tad has beaten the state in my defense not only once, but twice when I faced a DWI. He is a very competent attorney with a great reputation among the DAs and the Judges of Galveston and Harris counties. If you find yourself being charged with a DWI, do yourself a favor and at least go speak to Tad. I'm very grateful I did. Thanks Tad!

My experience with Tad Nelson & Associates was A+++++ all the way. It is not just his outstanding knowledge of the law Codes and how they are applied. What impressed me the most is his strategic thinking on how to approach my case, his professional relationship with the DA's office, and his strong working staff and associates. When I first approached Tad and his team I felt like I had a powerful force on my side and all of my apprehension and uncertainties about my case went out the door!! Tad really pulled a rabbit out of the hat for me, which I am sure he has done for countless others, and hopefully will do the same for you. Believe me he is worth every penny you pay AND MORE!!!

We hired Tad Nelson to defend our granddaughter and her husband, both of whom had been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prior to this time we had absolutely NO experience with the legal system, so we were very afraid of what penalty they faced for such severe charges. Tad did not overpromise, making it clear that the charges were very serious and that we needed to be patient and let him work to realize the best possible results. After about 15 months he was able to have the charges dismissed against our granddaughter and reduced to deferred imposition for her husband. I don't believe that even Tad thought he could achieve such results. Our grandchildren were given their lives back, and hopefully will use much better judgment in the way they live their lives in the future. Thanks again, Tad. You were certainly worth your fee!

April 15, 2012 I was arrested for a DWI. I had a history of DWI convictions. The District Attorney was ruthless. I was on Parole and could not bond out. I went to trial and was found NOT GUILTY on April 2, 2015. Yes, I was found NOT GUILTY after sitting in jail 2-1/2 years. I felt my neck under the boot of an impatient, Byzantine legal bureaucracy of Galveston County. The true blessing and hope was that I was in good hands with Tad Nelson and Amber Spurlock on my side. I was in the conservative court of Judge Lonnie Cox, which is said to favor the State. I was summoned to his chambers and was greeted by an Electric Chair sitting next to the photo of him and his bride. One could not feel any less comfortable. The Galveston Police officer had a story and so did I. Both stories conflicted each other. Tad Nelson listened to every word I had to say and he asked all the right questions. Tad and his team did their research, and did a great job doing so. Thanks to Tad Nelson and his team, we won! I am forever grateful for all the attention he gave me and the fact that he paid attention to what I had to say. I tell everyone I know about Tad Nelson because of his great work. It was a very stressful time and Tad was there for me. A case like this is very hard to win, but I believed in myself and more important my lawyer Tad Nelson . -Jeff W
