I have been practicing law for over 39 years, specializing in criminal law. I am board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I am experienced in criminal prosecution and criminal defense. I have tried jury trials in state court and federal court, while handling both kinds of appeals as well. I am also licensed to practice in the US Court of Appeals and the US District Court of the Northern District of Texas.

 

I have an electrical engineering decree from the University of Texas in Austin, am a former NASA engineer in the manned spacecraft program, a former Captain in the United States Air Force, and former prosecutor in the Tarrant County DA's Office, having been a chief felony prosecutor in three different felony courts. I have defended criminal cases for over 30 years, with experience in death penalty litigation as well as the full spectrum of cases in criminal law, having over 1600 hours of continuing education in criminal and family law.

 

I am best known for the defense of the first DNA murder case in Texas which became a landmark case for the admissibility of DNA evidence.

 

As a candidate for District Attorney in 2014, I spoke at many Republican Party political events and have been cited by the Fort Worth Star Telegram as having a mature and practical approach to the leadership I would have brought as DA of Tarrant County. 

 

While having extensive experience to deal with serious felony and misdemeanor cases, the client's feelings and goals have the priority as to how the case is handled. Maintaining a low profile so as not to unduly bring attention to the client's case is an important part of my practice. 

 

The objective in the trial of a criminal case is to win by being aggressive.

When we searched for an Attorney, we were looking for someone who was knowledgeable in the field of Family Court Justice. We needed someone who was a good listener to" our" side of the story. We needed someone who was caring as well as compassionate. The storms that come in the night
When the trials of life come crashing in on us, like waves on a ship in the night. When your soul cries out in anguish because you can not find your footing, that is the very moment you need help. In our trials that have hit George Mackey has been a constant help. His wise demeanor and systemactic questioning help calm the rough seas and his direction brings light and relief. He has been proactive and attentive helping us manage the stress. He is the first to make that early morning call to check on us or that late afternoon call to inform us. Always there to help...
Mr. Mackey helped more than 20 years ago in a divorce/custody case and then again @ 2 years ago with another issue. HE IS THE BEST, most honest attorney I have ever done business with. You can trust him and he is a man of his word. Because of all the assistance he has provivde me in the past, I GLADLY volunteered my time to help him in his campaign to run for District Attorney in Tarrant County. He is a good man! I will always recommend him!

Dishonest Lawyer
I hired Mr.Mackey to file a writ of habeas corpus. He never filed any motions on my case.After several attempts for a refund he never returned my calls or emails.l had to contact the State Bar of Texas. CAAP has sent him 3 letters and called his office.He did not respond. My next recourse was to file a grievance with the State Bar. This man in my opinion isn't honest!

I hired George Mackey to appeal my son's case. I had to find out the results of the appeal online. He never returns phone calls. The one time he did return a phone call, he told me to tell my son not to worry, that he will speak with the prosecutor and schedule a new court date. He never returned a phone call after that. Even when I begged him to call me back to tell me if he is has decided not to be my son's lawyer anymore, he still never returned my phone calls. I will be filing an official complaint.
