City of Dallas vs Gideon

Practice Area: Animal law

Outcome: 2010 pro bono case in which a temporary Injunction was granted against City of Dallas preventing its removal of family pets which ultimately resulted in settlement of the case in which the family pets were allowed to remain with the Gideons.

Description: City of Dallas revoked the Gideons' grandfathered right to possess more than 4 dogs and cats after the passage of a city ordinance limiting the number of such pets within the city limits. Their dogs and cats were rescued animals and essentially members of their family. All except one troublesome neighbor testified that the Gideons were model neighbors and their animals were well cared for and were not a bother to anyone. Several animal rescue groups confirmed the level of care and devotion of the Gideons to their pets.
