I went to Patrick and his team after a previous eight months of being led down a path towards separation. I accepted an NJP under the impression and advice from a Defense Counsel that retention was inevitable. After my CO recommended retention I continued to work hard, served honorably, and awaited t...o officially put one mistake behind me in order to move forward in my career. I was then notified months later that I was recommended for separation at the three star level. At this point when my entire command recommended I resign I sought consultation with Patrick. From that point forward I was made confident nothing was final and we could fight this. The team helped me develop the rebuttal and took the legal process out of my hands. Again for another six months I waited for a response, but the team consistently checked in with me and doing so kept me on course for success. Earlier this summer, I was volunteered for a short notice activation and deployment with the Navy Reserves. I walked away exonerated but what I experienced from this was an immense sense of growth. I was able to let go of things that were stopping me from finding peace. I was able to find some healing from this. I cannot say is go through this again but I'm a different person than I was walking into the courtroom. I now believe instead of just know that having a good life is a choice. Not a circumstance. I learned to be content with myself despite the ugliness. It's a freeing feeling. There's power in that. I might not ever be the mcpon of the Navy. But I am a better person and have a better understanding of what it means to have integrity. It's not just following regulations and obeying orders, or doing the right thing when no one is watching. It's choosing to have compassion for people, be kind, and choose to stand by them to make sure thier rights are being respected and holding everyone accountable for their actions and responsibilities. I could not have done that as eloquent as Patrick. I hope I don't ever need a lawyer again. However is I do it'll be Patrick.
