About Maria

Learn Maria’s areas of practice.

I have built my firm around providing peace and closure to families hurt by the very medical professionals who should be helping.  I have a highly specialized and unique set of skills that brings my cases to the best resolution possible.

I worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for eight years before completing law school in 1990. As an attorney I continue to advocate for patients and their families. I understand the medical field and empathize with the pain and stress negligent acts inflict. I have comforted patients and families through the stress and pain of a medical situation as a nurse and I continue to do so as an attorney.

Maria and her firm are excellent. She has handled three separate suits and won each one with a very fair settlement. She is compassionate and driven. Very smart lady! I admire and respect her very much. Highly recommend her for your needs. I will return to her as a client if necessary.

Very pleased
I had the pleasure of working with Maria and other people in the Wormington law firm. I was very happy with the way I was treated, the follow through on everything they said they would or could do. Very professional but on a personal level everyone was so considerate, understanding and always had my best interest first and foremost. I give this law firm a 5 star rating.

Thank-you for the kind words Kimberly. It is our goal to go above and beyond for all of our clients. It is never an easy process but it is why I opened my practice. As a RN nurse, I have been in the room and seen the damage caused by the negligence of medical professionals. Thank-you for your recommendation.

Maria exceeded my expectations
After contacting a half-dozen of law firms, in which I discussed the synopsis of my wife’s case, Maria was the only one who agreed to setup a follow-up appointment for a face-to-face assessment of the circumstances. My intention was to ensure the doctor who caused my wife’s death, did not get off scott-free. Maria and her staff dug-in to the available documents and did an initial review of the case, afterwards she informed me that she found validity in the case, and was willing to proceed. A lawsuit was issued, mediation was arranged, the doctors and the hospital recommended a settlement. This may sound like a straightforward open-and-shut case; Let me assure you, that this was not the situation. Maria combines her knowledge of both healthcare and law in a way that cuts through all the jargon and she is able to explain thing to me in a way I feel confident when the time came for me to make a decision. Maria is proof that some semblance of accountability can actually take place in this world, even in Texas. So then… • Did Maria meet my expectations? – YES, in fact she exceeded them. • Did I get what I asked for? – YES, absolutely (To ensure the doctor who caused my wife’s death, did not get off scott-free) this is now on the dr’s permanent public record. • Would I recommend Maria at Wormington & Bollinger? – YES indeed. If you feel that you or your love-one has unjustly suffered at the hands of a bungling dr, please let me advise you to keep your expectations realistic, especially if the case is in Texas. Why Texas?... “Texas is a state now known for tort reform. As part of this tort reform, several limits have been placed on the damages those injured by medical malpractice can receive.”, this is the main reason the other lawyers that I’ve talked to, told me why they did not want to take on a medical malpractice case in Texas. Don’t hate the lawyers, the Texas tort reform laws are intended to protect, not the patient rites, but the dr’s, with the result of having a higher number of dr’s, with the consequence of having a lower ratio of dr’s with an at least an “adequate” level of medical expertise (i.e. quantity over quality). Thank you Maria & your staff. Arthur

Thankful !!
Maria and her staff have been so wonderful during the nursing home lawsuit for my mom. Because of her knowledge on the many aspects of neglect that occur, I could rest assured that Maria was taking care of things while I was taking care of mom. Mom did pass away during this time, so having a caring attorney and Robyn her helper who worked tirelessly, was such a blessing. Thank you Maria and Robyn ! The great settlement really helped too!!!

Nursing Home Malpractice Suit
Maria worked to make sure the nursing home was held accountable for their actions. Other lawyers were not willing to take this case because there was a limit on the amount that the nursing was liable to payout, but Maria understood that it was more about holding them accountable to giving quality and safe care to our elderly parents in a nursing home. Thank you for taking on the Nursing Home Industry.

Maria Wormington
I hired Maria over 2 years ago for a medical malpractice case. She became the calm in my storm. I felt confident to let her run with my case while I healed and moved on with life. Her and her staff were professional and did an excellent job preparing me for every step during this long and tedious process. In the end, my case was successfully settled thanks to the Wormington Law Group.

Excellent Attorney
Dear Maria, I would like to thank you and your staff for all the work they did on my case. Like you, they are very diligent in their duties. They have always taken the time to calm me down and answer my questions. They never hesitated to tell me that they would have to get the answer I needed and they would call back as promised. I would highly recommend you and your staff to all who are in need of a great attorney. You and they are a credit to your profession and firm. Thank You

Thank you, Maria
Ms. Wormington met with our family and looked over most of our medical records on the first meeting (meaning, that she is very quick with her knowledge of medicine) and told us then that she would take the case--and it was a case that at least five other law firms had turned down as not being very winnable. She was very polite and personable. She has a calm and confident demeanor which was very encouraging to work with. Ms. Wormington was able to settle out of court so the process was expedient (we only had to meet at her office one time after our initial meeting for our depositions to be recorded and that was all there was to it). She negotiated with Medicare to lower our family's payment to them. If it were not for her professionalism, our family would not have received a settlement as our two year deadline was upon us and no one else to take the case--she was successful in getting our deadline extended

Destroyed our case
we gave Miss Warmington $2000 to retain her. She sat on our case for 10 1/2 months without doing a thing. Six weeks prior to the statute of limitations running out she finally found an expert witness for us after many, many repeated requests from both my wife and I. This expert witness was false in every single thing he stated in his review to protect his colleague from being sued and we are able to prove that. We wanted to find another honest expert witness, however the statute had run out and we were unable to do so. We have all the emails from both my wife and her during that 10 1/2 months pleading with her to find an expert witness for us and she did not even respond to our emails. We should have dismissed or after that I know, but we trusted her and did not think the outcome would be like this because we had such a strong case. I would steer clear of miss Warmington if I were you. As I said we have all the emails to prove this and there is much, much more to the story, however we will just leave it like this.

Response from Maria Wormington November 13, 2015
Wormington & Bollinger strives to provide peace and closure to our clients who have been hurt by the negligence of the medical community. After another attorney’s office declined representation, we agreed to explore your claim under a very special situation. The contract we entered into was to obtain the records and opinion of a qualified expert. If the expert was favorable to a claim, and if you wanted to pursue that claim a new contract would be discussed. In the roughly 8 months the case was at our firm we obtained and organized the medical records, photographs, and radiology studies. We located and sent the records to a qualified expert who was not favorable to a negligence claim. You agreed in the contract to cover the cost of the records and expert and paid a retainer of $2000.00 to get the process started. The cost to Wormington & Bollinger to manage your claim to that point exceeded the $2000.00 and this firm has absorbed the difference. I am sorry that you were unable to find the peace and closure you were seeking.

"As both a nurse and lawyer, Maria brings a knowledge and expertise to her personal injury and medical malpractice cases few can. I have had cases as co-defense counsel (before we both saw the light and became Plaintiff lawyers), as well as trained and worked with Maria on the Plaintiff's side. She is knowledgable, hardworking, caring and creative at reaching resolutions in cases many lawyers in Texas will no longer take due to the restrictive laws and difficult battles our legislature has put our citizens in by trying to deny access to the courthouse.
