I reached out to Mrs. Davenport to secure her counsel and services for a matter in Lafayette parish. I am not a resident of Lafayette parish. Her office arranged a phone call which was rescheduled and then I was passed to another attorney with whom the call was again rescheduled. All because, as I wa...s told, Laura Davenport was in hospital with a heart condition. Strange because I don't think she posses that organ. When the alternate attorney did call it was an hour earlier than the agreed upon time. After telling the other attorney my situation and being repeatedly told "now you'll have to repeat all of this to Laura," perhaps the final 5 minutes of the conversation covered legal matters and that was primarily me giving instructions to be passed along to Laura Davenport. I was told this consultation would take approximately two hours but it was only an hour long. For this I was charged $300. At no point whatsoever did Laura or her office follow up with me regarding my initial requests or my desire for further action. In fact, the only further communique was the $0.00 invoice she sent me! When I told Laura that I wanted a refund for the phone call which was ultimately a waste of my time she told me that I had been given a "consultation," that there was no expectation of a follow up, and if I did not want to speak with her associate I should have said so at the time. She may perhaps be technically correct but that doesn't make her right. I have more lawyers in my family than I would like. And they will be your best friend right up until you attempt to hold them to some accountability. As all lawyers are, Laura was cold, dismissive, and unempathetic. I feel that Laura and her staff have taken advantage of me and I would highly caution anyone before securing her or any of her associates to represent you especially if you do not live in Lafayette Parish.
