John Kim

John Kim is a Partner at Barrick, Switzer, Long, Balsley & Van Evera, LLP, concentrating his practice in all areas of civil litigation with a focus in family law. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kim began his career with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. Over the course of his career, Mr. Kim has represented a variety of clients including professionals, executives, business owners, attorneys, public figures, and other individuals seeking effective and efficient legal counsel. While Mr. Kim prioritizes the importance of resolving matters quickly and expeditiously through skilled negotiation, he does not hesitate to proceed with litigation if necessary. A seasoned courtroom litigator, Mr. Kim works to achieve successful resolution for all his clients.

Mr. Kim has been recognized for his courtroom accomplishments by Leading Lawyers as a 2019, 2020, and 2021 Emerging Lawyer (awarded to the top 2% of lawyers in Illinois under 40 years old) based on a survey of his peers. Mr. Kim has also been recognized by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys as one of the top attorneys in Illinois under 40 years of age. Outside the practice of law, Mr. Kim is involved in numerous civic organizations. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford as well as on the Board of Directors for the Golden Apple Foundation of Rockford. He also previously served as a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association Board as the President of the Young Lawyers Association.
