I would like to express my deepest, and most heartfelt, gratitude for the efforts and time you put into obtaining my divorce from my ex-husband. You, and your dedicated staff--especially your
"right hand." Gretchen Schrader--most assuredly went way beyond "the call of duty" on my behalf. Your experience, kindness, thoughtfulness, and competence achieved the desired results: My civil divorce, as well as my divorce according to Halacha (Jewish Torah Law).
As you may recall, I was referred to you by the Shalva Organization. We first met for my initial consultation in December, 2017, at which time you patiently spent close to two hours with me going over all the pertinent details of my situation. I'd been married for close to 38 years and had 7 grown children. To say I was horribly enmeshed in an unhealthy marriage would be a gross understatement. You concurred that, according to all that I told you, I was certainly a candidate for a divorce and would undoubtedly be entitled to half of all of our shared assets, including my husband's monthly pensions. You explained to me how things would proceed, in the event that I decided to go ahead and have my husband served for divorce. At that time, I was not yet prepared to leave my husband, However, the fact that you had calmly and thoroughly "walked me through" the divorce procedure gave me a feeling of empowerment. They say that, "Knowledge is power," and this certainly proved true in my case.
On February 20, 2018, I walked out of my home with a few suitcases and boarded a plane for New York City. My daughter welcomed me into her home. Shortly thereafter, I called to tell you my news, and have my husband served for divorce. You asked for a retainer fee, which I was able to borrow from a few family members and friends (I only had $200 to my name!) As soon as you received the retainer fee, you put :"the wheels in motion' for my divorce to proceed, You were able to get my husband to send me some monthly maintenance money, and eventually we went to court where the judge ordered my husband to pay me three times that amount!
It took us many, many months, and countless phone calls and emails. Remember? Finally, after patiently dealing with my husband's lawyers and real estate agents, he finally vacated our home and it was sold! Around the same time--almost two years after you initially filed for my divorce-- I flew back to Chicago where you and Gretchen escorted me to court, and I was granted my civil divorce. Shortly thereafter, I obtained my Jewish divorce (get).
I was free!
Throughout, you always made sure to treat me with the utmost respect and patience. You made sure to answer my calls/emails, or have Gretchen do so. Sometimes, I'd receive emails from you late at night, or calls from you or Gretchen after hours. I couldn't believe how much you cared!
You completely turned my divorce experience from one of intense stress and aggravation to one of growth and a feeling of tremendous empowerment. Again, your competence, years of extensive experience, and kindness certainly earned you high marks in my book. I feel so fortunate to have found you. YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE! As it says in the Torah (Bible): "When you save a life, you save a whole world."
Anyone who needs a successful and painless divorce experience, would be lucky to have you as their attorney. May G-d grant you the health and strength to continue helping all those in need, as I was. Thanks again for everything.
