  • A Master Attorney

I have been working with Attorney Jane Probst as a client for over one year.
I have been extremely impressed by her knowledge of the legal system and her concern
for protecting her clients. She will indeed expertly argue for her clients best interest.
It is very important that clients inform her with accurate up to date information ,so Attorney Probst can do what she needs to do for your case. She always communicates with me in a timely manner.
She works on my case with amazing detail, to which I am grateful. Something to which I have not
yet to experience by other attorneys I have retained over the years, with the exception of one.
I would easily recommend Attorney Probst to any potential client.

Jane Probst is on another level, she is the lawyer you've been looking for! She worked diligently to fight for placement of my son when my ex was planning to move with him across the country with her felon boyfriend she only knew a few months. I actually found her on this exact website and after reading a review that called her a "pit bull", I knew she was the lawyer for me! After months of hearings, I won my case and I walked out of the court room with primary placement of my son. That is HUGE for a father in the State of Wisconsin. I couldn't have done it without her! I truly believe no other lawyer out there could have given me the results that she did. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

  • Expensive lesson learned

I came to this law firm after working for a short time with a previous lawyer who wasn't filing paperwork on time, in the beginning it seemed so much better. Her law firm did get a custody study for our case which was a very good thing, but everything else was an incredibly expensive disapointment.
I worked with One of Probst's associates who although seemed nice was very incompetent in the courtroom, we had 2 humiliatingly bad losses in a row in which the opposing counsel completely dominated us. Not only was Probst's associate unprepared, but meek and afraid to speak up on my behalf IN COURT ROOM!
The 2nd of the embarrassing losses was a restraining order case I filed because of Jane Probst recommendation herself, she later scolded me telling me what an unwise decision it was because of the incredibly high burden of proof needed for a restraining order. WHAT? I was taking the advice of my law firm!
The first embarrassing loss was for withholding placement, my exhusband had been gone for 2 years, has a documented history of violence, and a woman in the house no one had met which the children claimed was hitting them..should have been easy to illustrate reasonable cause to withhold placement right? Nope, not only did we lose that hearing, but I was ordered to pay his attorney fees!
Ultimately what ended our relationship was an appeal I filed for the first hearing. I talked to and confirmed with the associate my plan to appeal both by email (documented) and by phone. 2 weeks passed before Probst even noticed, and then severed the relationship for "acting outside of counsel" and immediately gossiped to the opposing counsel the details of why they were no longer working for me. In fact, within hours I received a message from my ex husband taunting me about it; in her own pettiness and unprofessional behavior not only could she not take responsibility for her own firm's negligence, she actually gave my opposition fuel against me.
Probst ended up being completely unprofessional and unethical in the end, in fact during our last meeting the only part of our conversation she cared about was how much the opposing counsel might be making per hour. She also told me she was letting us go because it'd be impossible to win.

Probst cutting ties was the best thing that happened to our case because with a new lawyer we did win, in fact we got everything I asked for.
That associate by the way is no longer with the firm, I found out over the 2 months it took me to get a final statement from them.

Jane E Probst’s response: “This client did not originally meet with me. She met with my previous associate who left the practice of family law because of similar situations as this. The attorney she met with was the one who represented her throughout the case. Unfortunately, there are times when clients do not provide us with all the necessary and relevant information to prevail on a case and plan an appropriate strategy. Nothing is worse for an attorney than to discover that he or she has been provided incorrect or incomplete information when in actual trial of a case. The attorney client relationship requires a client to be forthright and honest with the attorney so they can provide the best possible advice under the circumstances. Unfortunately, when the results are adversely affected because of non disclosure, the client always blames the attorney who did not even have the sufficient information to be able to deflect this new evidence at the time of hearing. As I have said before, we are counsellors, not magicians. When this particular client decided to act without first consulting with us, I stepped in with my associate to discuss how these cases are affected if a client acts outside of the advice of counsel and contrary to the advice of counsel. Our law firm even has this set forth in our initial engagement agreements that this is a reason for our firm to withdraw as counsel for a client. Too often, clients go rogue and blame their attorneys for the outcome, Further, the attorney referenced in this review was an excellent attorney, and I was sad to see her go, She was offered an opportunity to work with neglected and abused children, which is her passion. Many family law clients are not willing to listen to the advice of counsel if it is not what they want to hear. Unfortunately, we do not write the laws. We work with what we have. We also stress at our initial consultations that there are no guarantees in litigation. We can not predict what a judge or court will do. That is exactly why we need full and accurate information from our clients so we can be fully prepared. We need both the adverse information and the positive information so we can be prepared to counter the negative. Further, I had absolutely no contact with opposing counsel on this case, so there was no gossip as to why pour firm withdrew from this case. Often, the former spouse will make up stories to tell the client to solely push their buttons. When the attorneys learn of it and discuss what was allegedly said, they are shocked. This happened once in another case of mine when I learned that my client said that I called opposing counsel a "big fat pig". Needless to say, I never said such a thing. I had always maintained a cordial relationship with this opposing counsel. When I confronted the client, he admitted that he fabricated the story. Such conduct only worsens an already tense situation and should not be done. I am happy that this client's new counsel was able to obtain a different result. Often, the tide can change in litigation as it progresses because more information comes forth or the facts change. In sum, one may lose the first couple of skirmishes, but win the war in the end.”

I hired Jane on a very complex multi-jurisdiction child custody case. She did an amazing job! She got my case moved to the appropriate venue while simultaneously filing motions to get the ball rolling in the new jurisdiction. She is personable and understanding. She fought vigorously and efficiently. She got me everything I wanted and more. If you are looking for a family law attorney that knows every aspect of the system, Jane Probst is the clear choice!

Very client oriented, thorough and considerate of her client's financial limitations. My last attorney "took me for a ride" and produced horrific results. Jane was just the opposite. Excellent outcome and reasonable cost. I highly recommend her.
