She is originally from Chengdu, China, but has lived in the United States for the last eight years. During her undergraduate studies at Iowa State University (“ISU”), Yang interned for then Iowa Governor, Chet Culver, earning a scholarship for Outstanding International Student at Iowa State University. She earned her BS in Accounting from ISU, and recently, she has participated in two, three-month long, training sessions aimed at obtaining her CPA license.
In 2011, Yang was accepted at Mississippi College School of Law (“MCSOL”) as the first ever female Juris Doctorate student from China. During her three years there, Yang acted as an academic liaison for MCSOL, negotiating business deals and fostering communications with law schools in China. In 2013, Yang traveled to China as the personal escort and confidant of MCSOL’s International Director, visiting law schools in Beijing, Chongqing, and Chengdu.
Yang has proven to be an asset to the International Communities of Mississippi and Iowa. Between 2012 and 2013, she helped negotiate a one million dollar international business acquisition in Mississippi. She currently volunteers her time, knowledge, and energy to the Chinese Association of Iowa. She also was a key figure in welcoming the Jinlin City Business Delegation Visitation to Iowa and the meeting with the General Consoler from China.
In 2015, Governor Branstad awarded Yang an Outstanding Volunteer award, for which she was nominated by the Chinese Association for her work with local immigrants. Part of that work is shown in Yang’s close connection with Iowa State University. While Yang was a student there she founded CSSA at Iowa State University, and assisted with legal aid on campus.
Academically, Yang focused on immigration, financial account reporting, business regulations, and taxation. In addition, she wrote several papers regarding immigration reform, EB-5 investments, foreign investment taxation, and the strategy behind using foreign tax credits and foreign tax deductions. She also gained rich experience in these areas of law and others while working for various prestigious law firms during her law school tenure.
Yang’s goal is to bridge the gap between the Chinese and U.S. business communities by specializing in immigration, international corporate law, and tax policies. She currently consults for startup, small, and midsize companies with international elements or shareholders, and assists them with employment and immigration issues as well as communicating with federal, state, and local governments regarding licensing and taxes.
