    Description:
    Semi truck - Car accident. Rehkemper and his partner, Cory Gourley, represented the Plaintiffs who were driving in a 2002 Ford Escort when a semi truck driven by Vanya Atanasova and owned by Venture One, Inc., pulled out in front of them from the shoulder of Highway 218 near Mount Pleasant. The driver of the Plaintiffs' vehicle could not avoid the semi in time and her vehicle struck the rear of the semi trailer, injuring her, killing her passenger and seriously injuring her two year old son in the back seat. Defendant's denied stopping on the shoulder of the highway and denied pulling out in front of Plaintiffs. The case proceeded to an 8 day jury trial in the Southern District of Iowa and the jury found the Defendants at fault and compensated Plaintiffs a total of more than 4 million dollars.

    Iowa Court of Appeals reversed defendant's conviction finding that her right to phone calls was violated when the officer prematurely terminated her call. The Court of Appeals ruled that the trial court should have suppressed the breath test result and that the test result would be inadmissible. Driving privileges were reinstated as a result.
