About me

John Bursch chairs the Appellate Practice and Public Affairs Litigation Groups at Warner Nocross & Judd LLP, representing national and international organizations and individuals in their largest, most sensitive, and most important matters. Over the past three years, John has argued more times in the United States Supreme Court (five) and the Michigan Supreme Court (11) than any other Michigan lawyer.


Representative clients include Amway Global, BorgWarner, Boy Scouts of America, Chicago Title Company, CMS Energy, DTE Energy, Huntington National Bank, Robert Bosch Corporation, Spartan Stores, Wells Fargo Financial Leasing, Whirlpool, multiple states and local governments as well as Canada. John has won multiple awards for briefs he has filed in the Michigan and U.S. Supreme Courts, and he has successfully litigated cases with more than $5 billion in controversy.  Representative amicus curiae clients include the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel Inc., the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Michigan Bankers Association, the Michigan Aggregates Association, the City of Grand Rapids, and three separate sections of the Michigan State Bar.


John has served in leadership positions for a number of appellate bar associations, including Chair of the ABA's Council of Appellate Lawyers and Co-chair of the Supreme Court subcommittee of the ABA's Section of Litigation. John has also served as an officer for both the Michigan State Bar's Appellate Practice Section and the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan's Board of Directors, and he is a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Advocates Guild.
