More Than Just a Lawyer — An Advocate Who Sees You

I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Jerry! From the very beginning, he was incredibly supportive, always treating me like a real person rather than just another case file. I could reach out to him anytime, and he always made me feel heard and taken seriously. His personable nat...ure, deep knowledge of criminal defense, and years of experience truly set him apart. He knew exactly how to navigate my situation and worked tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcome for me. Even when faced with the limitations of a broken system, he never stopped advocating on my behalf and was ready to go above and beyond at every turn. If you’re looking for a lawyer who genuinely cares about his clients and will fight for you every step of the way, I wholeheartedly recommend Jerry!

Most Client Disrespect Ever

Bourbon Water Party Store over-served me with alcohol (complaint made with MLCC). They then, reacting to the situation that they created watered surveillance tapes, called the police and got me charged with two felonies. Even though i knew i was not guilty of the alleged crime, Mr.Lykins insisted t...hat I plea guilty because a jury would find me guilty ‘anyway because of preponderance of evidence.’ I contributed to refuse and the court hired a private investigator, who after a very short investigation determined that I was telling the truth, that not only was the party store negligent in my intoxication, that they erased surveillance cameras and wrongfully got me charged with two felonies. One felony was then dropped but Mr. Lykins insisted that i just plea out so we didn’t have to “keep showing up at court”….. even though i most likely would have won a trial. Mr. Lykins then spoke to my abusive boyfriend about my case, not to me, treating me like an incompetent female, and told him…’I know her type, she’s just like my mother, she hides alcohol throughout the house’. That is of no similarity to anything that goes on in my home-life. When i asked for a copy of the P.I.’s report so that i could at least get compensated for the $1,500 that I wasted bonding myself out of jail, Mr. Lykins responded, ‘Why?? What do you think you deserve??’. ‘. …….I still have not received a copy of that report. He was condescending, disrespectful, assumed I was guilty when i absolutely knew I was not. He also pressured me to waive a probable cause hearing before even allowing me to read the police report, which i did not know had several blaicten lies in it that i couldn’t even have imagined being in the report. I couldn’t believe what i was reading AFTER Lykins walked out of the courthouse and left me sitting there reading the report for the first time. If you want to be represented in a disrespectful, condescending, judgmental way…. This would be a good attorney to hire.

After reviewing this evaluation of my services many times I have decided to respond to it. The narrative that is shared is incredibly inaccurate as to how I handled this matter. I believe anyone can see from the over 100 other reviews posted on AVVO that I care deeply about my clients and their legal situations. Many people I forge long-lasting friendships with and continue communication well after their cases end. I attempted to treat this person the very same way, and we were able to get the most serious charge dismissed without a trial or even a judicial hearing. I am well aware that people can come away from events with different memories but the fabrication of facts years after my representation of them is not fair. I have always made it a practice to share all relevant discovery documents with my clients. Even in light of these claims, I have shared everything again with this same individual. I hope you find peace in your life and appreciate those of us who championed your case and in the end, gained dismissals of the most serious charges against you.

Highly Recommended

I hired Jerry Lykins for an OWI-1 offense occurring in December 2019. I was very pleased with Jerry’s work. Under the circumstances, it could have easily resulted in a more severe sentence. Here’s what I especially liked about working with Jerry: Jerry charged a flat fee that was reasonable. ...He puts much emphasis on, and encourages, good communication. For attorneys who charge by the hour, a client is always hesitant to ask any questions about their case. Even the simplest of questions taking only a few minutes to answer are often billed at 15 minutes. I communicated frequently with Jerry via text messages, email and phone calls. Jerry goes back a long way with area judges, city attorneys and prosecutors. He’s well-respected in the legal community. Undoubtedly these personal relationships are helpful in getting the best outcome for his clients. Jerry knows if, and when, one should plead to a lesser offense. This is based not only on his knowledge of the law, which is extensive, but also knowing court personnel especially well and how they work. I was able to contact Jerry whether it was in the evening or on weekends. He promptly responded to all text messages, emails and phone calls. This obviously was a very trying time emotionally. Jerry was a good confidant and, while not diminishing the seriousness of the charge, helped put it in the proper “total-life” perspective. Jerry is personable, easy to talk to, empathetic and did an excellent job of managing expectations. I highly recommend Jerry Lykins.

Great attorney!

Jerry was thorough and helpful through my legal process and litigation for a High BAC OWI. I first consulted with Jerry after I was initially charged for the crime. I was able to check into a 30 day inpatient treatment center. While I was there, Jerry handled all of my legal obligations with the cour...t. When I was discharged from the treatment center, Jerry was helpful and proactive to assist me in my ongoing sobriety and recovery efforts. With the legal aspect, Jerry was fantastic in consulting with me and being able to keep me out of jail. Jerry not only did a great job in the legal aspect but was a great support in my recovery. I would recommend Jerry to anyone needing legal help with a drinking-related offense.

10/10

Gerald handled my legal matter in a very professional manner. He began with giving me a likely outcome of the situation and then continued to update me along the process. He clearly shows his concern for his clients with how he treated my case.
