In Re Bar Applicant v. State Bar of Michigan

Case Conclusion Date: 11.08.2008

Practice Area: Licensing

Outcome: Client granted privileges to practice

Description: Michigan has a strict set of guidelines for admission of new lawyers as well as lawyers who wish to practice in Michigan. Over the years I have represented dozens of lawyers and applicants who have brought many different problems to their credentials. A recent case involved a lawyer from another state who recently had an alcohol driving conviction. In his own state, the conviction did not affect his license for practice, but in Michigan, it raised a red flag for the Character and Fitness committee. By carefully preparing my client and presenting the clients therapy and credentials for recovery, we were able to secure his right to practice law in Michigan. Not always that simple, but certainly meeting the requirements of the Standing Committee.
