I was arrested on multiple counts and thought my life was over. My case involved mental health and Mr. Barone was able to integrate this into my defense. I plead to all misdemeanors and had a very comfortable sentencing.

Mr. Barone is very responsive to emails and is very reachable. Would recommend him to anyone.

Please read the following review, but if you choose not to read the whole thing I want you to know this: every penny spent with Patrick Barone is worth its weight in gold. If you’re in a tough situation and you need the best representation, I’d highly recommend Patrick. I interviewed the “best” lawyers around SE Michigan and was initially hesitant to spend so much money on a lawyer, but in hindsight, I made the perfect choice and do not regret it one bit.
I was arrested for drunk driving in Orchard Lake Michigan and my case ended up in the 48th District Court.  This was my 2nd OWI. After speaking to many lawyers and doing some research on that court, I knew the odds were against me. I interviewed over ten lawyers and I ended up hiring Mr. Barone, and he eventually got my case entirely dismissed!
I got pulled over and I refused the breath test, and my blood test came back at a .136. My first few conversations with Patrick centered around making sure my life was in order. He recommended various “self-improvement modalities” in which his prior clients have had positive experiences from.
Meanwhile, the case was going through “the motions” (no pun intended). It went through pre-trails and adjournments for over 4 months. Nothing was particularly fruitful of these adjournments, I believe they were just standard operating procedure as a case like this evolves. During this time period, Patrick spent a considerable amount of time with me (Probably close to 8 hours just over the phone) discussing possible strategies for the case. Bottom line, they had a blood test with .136 on it. I felt doomed. At least I knew I had a good lawyer.
I struggled on deciding whether to plead guilty or go to trial (there are no deals made at the 48th district court). Patrick help me come to the decision that going to trial was the best option. As it turns out, that decision was imperative.
As we were walking into the court to say we’re going to trial, Patrick advised that I retain an expert witness. I was reluctant due to my ignorance of trial strategies, but ultimately conceded to his advice. Once again, as it turns out, that decision ended up being imperative later on.
During the days leading up to the trial, there we’re certain “technical law” things that were said by the prosecutor. To explain the “technical law” things would be outside the scope of this review, but let’s just say Patrick was very quick to point these out and the be strategically responsive and considerate on what “chess move” to make next. On the date of the trial, the prosecutor was not prepared to try the case. The prosecutor moved to dismiss my case, which I guess is fairly common if they’re not ready to try the case at that time.
They ended up re-filing the case against me, and Patrick argued that it was against the law (double jeopardy) to try the case again. Another month passed of interviewing the prosecutor’s and the Judge soliciting various information channels, including an immaculate written argument prepared by Patrick and another top-notch Appellate lawyer Patrick looped-in (Good thing he has a great network).
Judgement day arrived. Tensions were high. No one knew what was going to happen. We expected the Judge to have a written judgement that he would articulate to the court. I speculated this may take 5 minutes or so. The judgement was to rule whether or not the original dismissal was illegal, aka “Dismiss with or without prejudice”. The Judge ruled to dismiss with prejudice and the case was over. Looking back, if it weren’t for the “slow play” approach of Patrick, the advice he gave me, the fact he suggested I go to trial, and the fact I should retain an expert – this never would have happened.
To the layman: Patrick’s thoughtful approach and wise advice in my case let to a dismissal (with prejudice) based on a technicality that might have been overlooked by more inexperienced lawyers. Retain him – you will not regret it!

The Staff at Barone Law firm was very helpful in a very scary first DUI situation. it happened over the weekend and his associates were the only ones to call me back. They also presented the facts of the case as to what to do in the critical first steps. Barone law was nice and presented the truth of how things go. The assistance was what i needed to lower my blood pressure and i was grateful.

  • You want Patrick Barone on your side

I needed a good night sleep, so I took Ambien and went to bed. I woke up arrested, charged with an OUID, and my career future in danger. When I looked for a lawyer with Ambien experience in MI, I found Patrick Barone. From the first day I talked with him, I had the piece of mind that my sleep driving case would have the best possible outcome. Patrick knows the science and the system. My case was quickly reduced to a civil infraction. Don’t take prescription controlled substances if you can avoid them— those labels warnings are real. However, if you find yourself in my situation, you want to get the Barone Defense firm on your side.

  • Absolutely amazing; professional, and reliable...the best DUI lawyer!

Getting a DUI charge is a very serious offense. It impacts you financially and emotionally and could affect your life for a long time, if not forever. The situation is especially bad when it's a second offense. Earlier this year I made a huge mistake by getting arrested and charged with a second DUI. Since Patrick Barone worked on my first case (with amazing results!),I contacted the Barone Defense Firm (BDF). I knew this was a serious situation and if anyone could help, it was Patrick Barone.

Since day 1, Patrick was very professional, kind, and understanding of my situation.Knowing how stressful a second DUI offense is, he was very supportive and patiently answered my many questions., Patrick was also very thorough explaining all of the legal aspects. One thing that I really appreciated was his honesty and directness. He was not one of those lawyers that minimize the cases and "promise" or "assure" you're going to get a specific outcome (charge reductions, case dismissals, etc.)

I think there might be other good lawyers that can take your case, however, something that sets Patrick apart is that he's really interested in the person, not just the client. What I mean is, he really tries to help you from a personal perspective to realize, or at least consider, if you have an alcohol or substance abuse problem. He also gives you suggestions on how to find guidance to address those issues. He doesn't look at you as just a client looking for legal help, but as a person that he sincerely wants to help. I find that really rare these days. Patrick is the best DUI lawyer you could hire. He has published two DUI books, teaches at a university and is very well respected in the courtroom.

Thanks to Patrick’s absolutely amazing job, last week I got the most incredible news I could have received. I feel very lucky and blessed, and feel like I got my life back! I will always be thankful to Patrick for all his hard work and for all the concepts and points of view he shared with me. And of course, I will always feel grateful to everybody at the BDF, for their professionalism, patience, and help, especially Christine and Sarah, who were very kind, understanding, and responsive.

If there's anyone out there going through this awful situation, I would strongly suggest contacting the BDF and get the best defense there is. You can be assured that they are going to fight for you legally and help you personally.

I totaled my car on the way back to Grand Valley from Rochester Hills during the first week of January. I let Pat know right away of the incident and court date. Since I live in Grand Rapids, it would have been really inconvenient for me to travel 2.5 hours just to go to a court date. Pat volunteered to go for me almost immediately. He also sent me periodic emails on how my case was going and was very easy to get a hold of if I ever had any questions. I ended up getting those points off my license. I would recommend him!!!

Working with Mr. Barone in a very difficult time in my life couldn't have concluded any better. His thorough and honest approach, despite my sometimes very dark moments, brought comfort and a fair resolution to my case. I considered him like a friend who brought comfort when I was in need.

Patrick consistently kept me uninformed on critical documents. My trial was delayed FIVE times to the point that the judge was exceptionally angry. Patrick did nothing to further my complex case, and his lack of communication and follow through was so abysmal the judge himself went on record to say he planned to find me guilty thanks to Patrick not filing critical documents on time on my behalf.
Because of Patrick's incompetence in representing me, and his angering of the judge, I finally decided to plead guilty after 9 months of delays. The outcome I received was something I could have achieved with a court-appointed lawyer for free. Instead I spent $18,000; yes 18 GRAND to ultimately plead guilty to something I didn't do.
I would not wish this lawyer on my worst enemy. If you are facing an OWI or DUI, do yourself a favor and avoid this *lawyer* at all costs.
