Mr. Washburn agreed to assist me with my mother's estate. It was a very simple case. She had a house, a few bank accounts and I was the only heir. I did most of the work - distributing assets, working with the accountant for taxes, claiming life insurance, managing the checking account, ect. Mr. Washburn's office filed the necessary paperwork in court and reviewed one document. I was working with the paralegal and agreed to pay $150/hr for her help. After checking with several attorney-friends in my town and elsewhere, I was advised that an amount of $1200 or so was usual for such services. I was billed almost $6000. My advise is to get a "not to exceed" agreement in advance or go elsewhere.
