I spent nearly 29 years as a magistrate in the Hamilton County Domestic Relations Court and issued thousands of decisions on custody, property, contempt, domestic violence, merits and nearly every other matter handled in that court. After I had completed enough time to receive my full retirement benefits, I entered private practice with The Farrish Law Firm where I have represented clients for the past five years. In addition to serving as a magistrate and as an attorney, I have been a speaker for numerous organizations including The Cincinnati Bar Association, The Ohio Bar Association, The Ohio Supreme Court’s Judicial College, The Ohio Association of Magistrates, The Ohio Association of Judges and The NBI. Before taking the bench, I was in private practice, served in The Public Defender's Office, taught at Chase College of Law and ran the Clinical Program at Chase College of Law. I have appeared in The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, The First District Court of Appeals, The 12th District Court of Appeals and The Supreme Court of Ohio.

Proud Father
After hiring and terminating 2 other lawyers, I found Kathy King through my parents coworker...I had been without seeing my 2 year old daughter for almost a year when she had taken over my case. Let me start off by saying that in Ohio, it is very prejudiced for a man to get custody of his children. I was advised initially from the previous lawyers it could take over 5 years and possibly in the teens of thousand dollars. This was never the issue with Kathy King, she was realistic, explanatory, and courteous to my needs to see and even get partial custody then eventually full custody of my daughter. Having Kathy as my attorney, this fear was eased because she fights for her clients rights and knows the value of the father in the relationship with the child. I felt no prejudice going to court and getting custody of my daughter with her as my attorney. Kathy was very thorough in her communication with me, regarding getting paternity established, then the eventual custody case. She was in constant contact with contact with me regarding upcoming court dates, what was going to happen in court that day, and what we could expect. She explained everything pre/post court of what happened during, what was going to happen next time we had court, and made sure any questions I had were answered promptly. She went above and beyond in representing me getting full custody of my child. Kathy King was a godsend to my family as the separation and eventual loss of visitation of my daughter was having emotional consequences to my family. My daughter now has entered the second grade is loving her life with her family, and her friends, and sees her mothers family whenever she (my daughter) wants. She has all of her needs met, and this is due to Kathy King's representation of me. I would recommend her to family and friends for years to come, as well as her legal team.

Angels and ministers of grace defend us!
After 22 years of marriage, I was suddenly faced with something I never imagined: Divorce. In the parlance of the industry, the divorce was "highly contentious." In layman's terms it was sudden, brutal, and ugly. There were four children involved and my soon-to-be-ex-wife had decided to fight dirty. In the few months after the initial blow, I began interviewing several attorneys. It was a laborious process but well worth the effort because I had finally met Kathy King. I would not say that I chose Kathy, but rather that we chose each other. I do not think she will take just any case. I think she can afford to be particular. I wanted Kathy because she didn't talk tough like the other attorneys I interviewed. Instead of promising vengeance, she promised to fight for justice. Kathy approached my case in a diligent, thoughtful manner. She was civil. She was professional. She was fair, even when her opponent was not. She helped me understand what divorce is really all about: the children. Through this process I spent a good deal of time in and around the courthouse. I was impressed with Kathy's composure and the way she conducted herself at all times. I repeatedly observed that she had the respect of everyone she interacted with and her reputation for excellence preceded her. Sometimes the stress of the process was difficult for me to bear, and despite her professional, glossy, and composed exterior, Kathy showed me that she cared. Some attorneys only care about winning. Kathy cares about the people involved. She works for their well-being. I placed my trust into her careful, skilled, and knowledgeable hands. I deferred to her years of experience and better judgement and I am truly grateful for her service. I can think of no higher commendation to give than my thorough endorsement of her counsel for anyone forced with navigating this sad and tragic life experience.

Best attorney around!!!!
Kathy represented me in an insurance claim. She went to great lengths and effort to try to push a claim through the insurance company. She did EVERYTHING that could have been done. She was very easy to work with. She explained things in a language that I understood. She is extremely compassionate. She makes "your fight" HER fight!!!! She is a fantastic person, in and out of the courtroom. If you are looking for a great attorney, you have found one with her.

Brilliant Attorney with Compassion
Kathy has been my attorney pretty much since my divorce proceedings began. Being a former Magistrate, Kathy knew the ins and outs of the system and always kept me abreast of what to expect. I am thankful I chose Kathy to represent me and I am grateful for her unyielding efforts. If you are in need of an incredible domestic relations legal mind, I strongly recommend Kathy King to represent you during this difficult chapter in your life.

KAthy King has been superb to work with over the years as a client
I hired Kathy King over three years ago. She came highly recommended by domestic relations staff. I have been 150% happy with her and her legal advice, coaching, and lawyer skills as I have navigated a messy, divorce and custody battle with my ex-wife. She is readily available 24 hours a day. She works very hard and is very open minded to letting me voice my opinion and let me give her suggestions. She is easy to talk with and explains things in a fashion I can understand. She is well respected in the courtroom and this had paid dividends for myself. I would recommend her highly to anyone.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter
"Kathy and I have been opposing attorneys in Domestic Relations Court. We both fought hard to reach just and thoughtful agreements when and where possible. Kathy is reasonable in the negotiating process and saves her clients a ton of money because of her tremendous knowledge of what the court will likely do--this is a rare thing to find in Hamilton County. Many domestic relations lawyers I have encountered in Hamilton County tend to file ridiculous motions to increase their legal fees. Ms. King didn't play any of those senseless games with her client's money. She is also an excellent attorney in the courtroom so, when cases can’t get settled, she represents her clients in a vigorous and respectful fashion."

"I represented the father and Kathy represented the mother in a juvenile court custody case. Kathy is a wonderful attorney to work with because she settles what can be settled and fights for her clients when an agreement isn’t possible. She is an excellent attorney both as a litigator and as one who resolves sticky issues."

"I've had the opportunity to review answers by Ms. King on this site and unlike some attorneys, she doesn't give the answer, "Talk to an attorney." She actually does the opposite and gives the askers on Avvo real answers that are beneficial. I have to believe it carries over into her practice and, with that in mind, I can recommend, without reservation, as an attorney that will meet your legal needs."
